The general

"Evacuate those losers," the general asked, "give me one good reason why I should waste time, money and above all good men on saving the lives of those who don't matter. They are scum, parasites, never invested in our precious society."

"But honey how can you say such a thing?"

His wife's eyes were felt with tears and if there was something he couldn't stand it was a sobbing woman. He should have never got married. Stubborn as he was he turned around, stared out of the window and waited for her to leave. The damned girl had everything she needed, he pampered her but was never satisfied. Why care about poor bastards stupid enough to live on the riverbanks? "My ass," he groaned. If you can't think ahead, are not prepared for misery, are too stupid to live, you can not expect others to come to your rescue.

The botanicals should she take it with her? She decided to leave them behind. A new life meant a new start and somewhere a place waited for her. A better life but most likely not a luxury one but for freedom she was willing to pay that price.

Giving away power wasn't his style and for sure it was a positive development he had to leave urgently and wouldn't return home soon. Other obligations in the North asked for his attention. The South, the floods he didn't care about. Those poor people already became history were wiped out of his memory before she could count till three.

After the car accident, she hadn't been able to drive with it but she was happy he had taken care of the repair, arranged it all. It was her only way to get out of here and start a new life. She packed a small bag with the most necessary things, took the cat and left. There was no need to say goodbye to anyone because during all these years she hadn't made a single friend.
She knew where to go, what to look for up in the hills. It took her three days but it was the happiest hour of her life as she finally arrived home.
