Desde hace un tiempo, se podría decir que un poco más de un año, comencé a estar sólo para mí, gracias a Dios, pero no fue nada fácil llegar a este estado de auto-dedicación y amor propio, ni tampoco fue un logro que decidí por mi cuenta, sino por varios giros inesperados de la vida que así lo permitieron. Lo que sí es seguro, es que sin pensarlo mucho me aferré a este momento de mi vida y la oportunidad de poder ser un poco celosa con mi espacio, y mi tiempo, y pensar únicamente en mis necesidades básicas, y toda la atención posible que pueda darme, para de esa manera mitigar un poco el descuido al que me sometí casi mi vida entera. Pero déjenme contarles un poco cuál fue esa trayectoria, por qué nunca pensaba en mi bienestar personal por pensar en los demás, cuánto me afectó olvidarme de mis necesidades básicas, y cómo llegué a este momento que estoy aprovechando al máximo. >>For a while now, I could say a little over a year, I began to be only for myself, thank God, but it was not easy to reach this state of self-dedication and self-love, nor was it an achievement that I decided on my own, but by several unexpected twists of life that allowed it. What is certain, is that without much thought I grabbed this moment of my life and the opportunity to be a little jealous with my space, and my time, and think only about my basic needs, and all the possible attention I can give myself, to mitigate a little of the neglect to which I subjected myself almost my entire life. But let me tell you a little of what that trajectory was, why I never thought about my personal well-being because I thought about others, how much it affected me to forget about my basic needs, and how I got to this moment that I am making the most of.

Cuando niña sentí que era el brazo, la pierna, o la mano derecha de mucha gente que giraba a mi alrededor… la lista es larga, pero recuerdo algunos casos puntuales. Se trataba de ese momento de la vida donde estamos hechos de alegría, energía, ilusiones e inocencia, realmente no me afectaba en lo más mínimo que constantemente me pidieran ayuda para cualquier cosa sin importarles si yo quería hacerlo, si estaba ocupada con mis tareas, jugando que es un derecho esencial de los niños, o si me sentía desganada, de igual manera me obligaban a hacerlo sin darme la oportunidad de oponerme, y yo de manera obediente cumplía con el pedido sin quejarme. >>As a child I felt that I was the arm, the leg, or the right hand of many people who revolved around me... the list is long, but I remember some specific cases. It was that time in life when we are made of joy, energy, illusions and innocence, it really didn't affect me in the least that they constantly asked me to help with anything without caring if I wanted to do it, if I was busy with my homework, playing which is an essential right of children, or if I felt listless, they still forced me to do it without giving me the opportunity to oppose, and I obediently complied with the request without complaining.

Cualquier cosa que yo estuviera haciendo se veía interrumpida por un grito que decía: “Mija, ven para que me piques unos aliñitos”, o “Recógeme esta basurita”, “Guarda esa ropita en el closet”, “Pásale un trapito a estos muebles que ya tienen polvo”… con el tiempo variaron las peticiones, ahora era también: “Lávame esos perolitos”, “Guarda los peroles lavados”, “Hay que bañar a los perros”, “Échale una barridita a la casa”, “Riégame las matas”, en fin, de alguna forma eso me fue enseñando, a mi parecer, a desempeñar las labores del hogar, pero el punto al que hago referencia en este escrito, no se trata de lo que pudieran pedirme desde mis escasos 5 o 6 años, y cuánto aprendizaje pudieron dejarme estas labores, sino que jamás les decía que no a nada, y fui acostumbrando a todos los que estaban cerca de mí a decir siempre sí, y a estar a la disposición para ayudarles en las mil cosas que pudieran solicitarme sin quejarme, desde picar los aliñitos a los 6 años, hasta atender un bebé recién nacido a mis 12 años porque necesitaban descansar, o trabajar, estudiar, o salir a hacer diligencias, la parte buena fue que me preparé muy temprano para desempeñar el rol de madre. >>Whatever I was doing was interrupted by a shout that said: "Mija, come here so that you can give me some "aliñitos", or "Pick up this garbage", "Put those clothes in the closet", "Give these pieces of furniture a dusting"... with time the requests changed, now it was also: "Wash those "perolitos", "Keep the pots washed", "We have to bathe the dogs", "We have to sweep the house", "Water the bushes", "We have to bathe the dogs", "We have to sweep the house": "Wash those little pots", "Put away the washed pots", "The dogs need to be bathed", "Give the house a little sweep", "Water the bushes", in short, in some way that was teaching me, in my opinion, how to do housework, but the point I am making reference to in this writing, is not about what they could ask me since I was only 5 or 6 years old, and how much learning these tasks could have left me, I never said no to anything, and I got used to all those who were close to me to always say yes, and to be available to help them in the thousand things that they could ask me without complaining, from chopping up the little dressings when I was 6 years old, to taking care of a newborn baby when I was 12 years old because they needed to rest, or work, study, or go out to run errands, the good part was that I was prepared very early to play the role of mother.

El problema vino cuando yo crecí y comencé a tener mis propias responsabilidades. Llegó un momento donde se me hizo difícil negarme a lo que me pedían porque generaba molestias al intentar evadir el compromiso, no lo podía creer pero un simple “no voy a poder” o “estoy ocupada”, “tengo un compromiso”, etc., provocaba una polémica familiar. Llegué a cancelar salidas, compromisos con otras personas, incluso mis labores escolares, por ayudar a alguien que me lo solicitara en la casa. Así fueron pasando los años, y parecía que llevaba tatuado en la frente un letrero que decía: “Disponible para todas las causas posibles”, porque ya no era únicamente la familia, sino que trascendieron las solicitudes hasta amistades, y vecinos que a veces pedían colaboraciones complicadas y yo no me negaba porque me daba pena decirles que no, sentía que me iban a cuestionar, a llamar egoísta, odiosa, mala gente, cualquier cosa por decirles que no podía ayudarlos. De esa manera siempre estuve dispuesta a apoyar en las causas hasta las del corazón, y hasta en líos ajenos me vi envuelta por andar de buena samaritana. Algo en mí me hacía entregarme a lo que sucedía con los demás y apartaba hasta mis propios compromisos para colaborarles a ellos. >>The problem came when I grew up and started to have my own responsibilities. There came a time when it became difficult for me to refuse what I was asked to do because it generated discomfort when I tried to avoid the commitment, I could not believe it but a simple "I will not be able to" or "I'm busy", "I have a commitment", etc., provoked a family controversy. I went so far as to cancel outings, commitments with other people, even my school work, in order to help someone who asked me to do so at home. So the years went by, and it seemed that I had a sign tattooed on my forehead that said: "Available for all possible causes", because it was no longer only the family, but the requests transcended to friends and neighbors who sometimes asked for complicated collaborations and I did not refuse because I was embarrassed to say no, I felt that they would question me, call me selfish, hateful, bad people, anything to tell them that I could not help them. In that way I was always willing to support causes, even those of the heart, and I even got involved in other people's problems because I was a good Samaritan. Something in me made me give myself to what was happening with others and I even set aside my own commitments to collaborate with them.

Con el tiempo, esta situación se dio en otros círculos como mi matrimonio, la nueva familia, el entorno universitario, y también el laboral. Recuerdo algunos casos que aún me causan stress tan sólo de pensarlos: -En el colegio donde laboraba, yo me desempeñaba como Prof. de Castellano, y posteriormente también como Orientadora, pero aún no había finalizado la carrera. Me solicitaron que coordinara el área de Cultura en secundaria que luego acomodarían ese cargo extra. Los años transcurrieron, y jamás me pagaron esa labor, y cuando lo manifestaba, me decían que yo aún no estaba graduada y no se podía efectuar la nómina con ese cargo, por su jerarquía, pero de igual manera me exigían seguir desempeñándolo porque más nadie sabía hacerlo. Esa labor me tomó horario extra que pertenecía a mi tiempo libre, y más de una vez me privé de una salida o un descanso por atender esta actividad que exigía mucha atención y dedicación porque tenía que hacer ensayos, coordinar bailes, obras de teatro, elaborar trajes, etc. La explotación y el abuso finalizó cuando me retiré de esa institución. >>Over time, this situation occurred in other circles such as my marriage, the new family, the university environment, and also at work. This work took me extra time that belonged to my free time, and more than once I deprived myself of an outing or a break to attend this activity that demanded a lot of attention and dedication because I had to do rehearsals, coordinate dances, plays, elaborate costumes, etc. The exploitation and abuse ended when I retired from that institution.

-Otro caso fue estando en la universidad, donde desde el inicio formamos un grupo que siguió junto una larga trayectoria de la carrera. Cada una desempeñaba una labor en los trabajos de equipo, pero al momento de exponerlos o presentarlos, nuestro material de apoyo era individual. Una de las integrantes me pidió la primera vez que la ayudara con el material de apoyo, yo no me negué, y para mi sorpresa, siguió haciéndolo incluso sin preguntarme si podía, y yo no encontraba la manera de decirle que no tenía tiempo, y que de ahí en adelante debía seguir ella sola haciendo sus láminas y carteleras. Incluso, cuando yo no estaba en la casa me dejaba las cosas con mis hijos, y al llegar me decían: Mami, aquí te dejó la señora fulana este material. Logré quitarme de encima ese lío porque yo perdí un semestre y ella se adelantó. >>Another case was when I was in college, where from the beginning we formed a group that followed a long career path. -Hubo uno que aún me da coraje a pesar del tiempo, y es que en la ciudad de El Tigre siempre se hacían aquellas marchas monumentales apoyando a los candidatos políticos (estoy hablando de los años 80). Yo tenía 15 años y formaba parte de un grupo que se llamaba Juventud Democrática, y ese fin de semana venía de visita el candidato. Seleccionaron un grupo de 5 chicas para dirigir la marcha, y yo estaba en la selección. Ya teníamos los uniformes listos, habíamos pasado días ensayando, y un día antes del evento llega una prima y me dice que necesita con urgencia que la acompañe a otra ciudad porque tiene cita con el médico el día lunes y debe estar allá muy temprano. Necesitaba que me quedara cuidando a sus bebés mientras ella entraba a la consulta. Por más que le dije que no podía acompañarla porque tenía un evento, me tuve que ir con ella, y la familia no me apoyó a pesar de que lo supliqué. Me dijeron que la petición de ella era más importante que ese evento. Pasé todo el trayecto llorando en silencio sin decir una sola palabra. >>There was one that still gives me courage in spite of time, and that is that in the city of El Tigre there were always those monumental marches in support of political candidates (I am talking about the 80's). I was 15 years old and was part of a group called Juventud Democrática, and that weekend the candidate was coming to visit. -Y una anécdota más bien chistosa de esas peticiones no negadas fue cuando una amiga quería enamorar a un chico bastante serio, por cierto, y como ya yo tenía mi don de poetiza a temprana edad, ella me pidió que le escribiera cartas de amor para él, jajajaja, sí señores, hasta ahí llegaban las peticiones, y bueno, al principio me pareció una locura pero lo hice. Ya pueden imaginar lo que pasó, él se enamoró de mí a través de las cartas, sentía que la persona que escribía no era la misma con quien conversaba personalmente, y le pidió que le escribiera algo frente a él, ella no supo qué hacer y se descubrió todo el desastre. Por supuesto, él no me llamaba la atención para nada y seguimos siendo buenos amigos, pero siempre me recordaba que estaba enamorado de la poeta que había en mí, por suerte hasta ahí nada más, jajaja. ¿Ven hasta dónde pueden llegar los favores pedidos? Y la necesidad de decir no las veces que sea necesario para no comprometernos con cosas tan delicadas. >>- And a rather funny anecdote of those requests that were not denied was when a friend of mine wanted to fall in love with a very serious guy, by the way, and since I already had my gift as a poetess at an early age, she asked me to write love letters for him, hahahaha, yes gentlemen, that was as far as the requests went, and well, at first I thought it was crazy but I did it. You can imagine what happened, he fell in love with me through the letters, he felt that the person he was writing was not the same person he was talking to personally, and he asked her to write him something in front of him, she didn't know what to do and the whole mess was discovered. Of course, he didn't call my attention at all and we remained good friends, but he always reminded me that he was in love with the poet in me, luckily that's all there was to it, hahaha. See how far favors asked for can go? And the need to say no as many times as necessary so as not to compromise with such delicate things.

Y así sigue la lista. El tiempo pasaba y lo que quizás en mis primeros años de vida no me afectaba ni física, ni emocional, ni mentalmente, con el pasar del tiempo sí, y mucho. Vinieron compromisos más fuertes e imposibles de evadir. Una vez el doctor me dijo: “Si no te retiras a tiempo de este exceso en tu vida, te vas a enfermar… no puedes asumir tantas cosas a la vez, el organismo te lo va a reclamar”. Recuerdo que me hizo una pregunta muy significativa durante el test: ¿Cuáles son las personas más importantes en tu lista de prioridades? Las escribí, y cuando él la leyó, me dijo: ¿Por qué tú no estás en esta lista? Y reflexioné en que nunca me había colocado en mi lista de prioridades, ni siquiera al final. >>And so the list goes on. Time went by and what perhaps in my first years of life did not affect me physically, emotionally or mentally, as time went by it did, and very much so. Stronger and impossible to avoid commitments came. Once the doctor told me: "If you do not withdraw in time from this excess in your life, you are going to get sick... you cannot take on so many things at the same time, your body will demand it". I remember he asked me a very significant question during the test: What are the most important people on your list of priorities? I wrote them down, and when he read it, he said to me: Why aren't you on this list? And I reflected that I had never put myself on my priority list, not even at the end.

Mi labor como madre requería tiempo completo mientras mis hijos estaban pequeños, e incluso, mientras continuaban en periodos escolares, allí los “síes” eran infinitos sin pensarlos. Apoyé a mis hijos hasta que se graduaron de todo lo que quisieron estudiar, desde aprender a leer y a escribir, hasta ayudarlos a elaborar sus tesis e informes de pasantías, no existe una satisfacción más grande como madre y educadora que formar parte esencial de ese proceso que es para toda la vida. En lo personal, con sus vidas ya realizadas, ellos saben que siempre cuentan conmigo en la medida de lo posible. Pero en lo laboral, si tuve que retirarme del colegio porque la explotación ya era muy descarada, y aunque construí mi propia empresa, me saturé de trabajo y llegó un momento donde laboraba de lunes a lunes, 24/7, y en efecto, el doctor tuvo razón, me enfermé y de la manera más delicada. Un fin de semana, finalizando una labor un domingo en la tarde, dejé en orden el taller de trabajo y cuando me dirigía a mi habitación, me desmayé, gracias a Dios recobré el conocimiento rápido, pero no pude levantarme y me fui arrastrando hasta la cama. Todo me daba vueltas incluso con los ojos cerrados, me sentía muy mal, y no era por no haber comido. Llamé a mi hija, y al día siguiente fuimos al doctor. Ahí fue donde me diagnosticaron la ansiedad después de un montón de estudios. >>My work as a mother required full time while my children were young, and even while they were still in school, there the "yeses" were endless without thinking about it. But on the work front, I had to retire from school because the exploitation was already too blatant, and although I built my own company, I became saturated with work and there came a time when I worked from Monday to Monday, 24/7, and indeed, the doctor was right, I got sick and in the most delicate way. One weekend, finishing a job on a Sunday afternoon, I left the workshop in order and when I was going to my room, I fainted, thank God I regained consciousness quickly, but I could not get up and I crawled to bed. Everything was spinning around even with my eyes closed, I felt very bad, and it wasn't because I hadn't eaten. I called my daughter, and the next day we went to the doctor. That's where I was diagnosed with anxiety after a lot of tests.

Comenzaron las recomendaciones del doctor pero casi ninguna era posible cumplirla porque eso implicaba principalmente, no trabajar más, y si hay algo que gracias a Dios nunca dejé de hacer, fue poder asumir varias labores a la vez para sacar adelante a mis hijos que quedaron por completo bajo mi responsabilidad desde que me divorcié, aunado a esto, vivir en un país con una crisis económica que deteriora la calidad de vida de sus habitantes. Con el tiempo, ya mis hijos adultos, me fueron dando soporte y gracias a eso bajé la intensidad laboral, pero la enfermedad seguía creciendo por el stress y todavía se me hacía imposible seguir las recomendaciones médicas de dedicarme sólo a mí, tomarme mi tiempo sola, viajar, recrearme, vivir la vida a plenitud, eso era imposible en ese momento, ahora había una carga mayor de responsabilidades y ninguna se podía evadir. >>The doctor's recommendations began, but almost none of them were possible to comply with because that mainly implied not working anymore, and if there is something that, thanks to God, I never stopped doing, it was to be able to assume several tasks at the same time to take care of my children, who were completely under my responsibility since I got divorced, added to this, living in a country with an economic crisis that deteriorates the quality of life of its inhabitants. With time, my adult children were giving me support and thanks to that I lowered the work intensity, but the disease continued to grow because of the stress and it was still impossible for me to follow the medical recommendations to devote myself only to me, take my time alone, travel, recreate, live life to the fullest, that was impossible at that time, now there was a greater burden of responsibilities and none could be avoided.

Llega la pandemia, cierro el taller por precaución, hay que reinventarse, llueven nuevas ideas laborales, creé varios emprendimientos que por ley me tomaban tiempo completo, llega Hive a mi vida, y mi mamá que ya estaba enferma y se vino a vivir conmigo, comienza a agravarse. La dedicación a mi madre en medio de una enfermedad que no me daba tregua para reaccionar porque avanzaba muy rápido, llegó a privarme hasta de las merecidas horas de descanso, comía mal o no comía, me enfermé de los riñones por aguantar muchas veces las ganas de orinar ya que no podía dejarla sola estando despierta, a veces no me daba chance de ir a bañarme y me quedaba rendida cuando mi hija llegaba, ya dormía poco, un par de horas quizás mientras mi hija me hacía guardia porque ella trabajaba de día y necesitaba descansar un poco más que yo. Gracias a Dios entre ella y mi comadre me apoyaron muchísimo para no desmayarme en el proceso. Al morir mamá, ya la ansiedad había llegado a la Luna, ahora era ansiedad depresiva y por ley venía cumplir el tratamiento y las recomendaciones… y fue entonces donde por primera vez en muchos años, comencé a pensar en mí, en mis necesidades básicas, en ser mi prioridad y ocupar el primer lugar de esa lista, en dedicarme tiempo completo, en hacer las cosas cuando sienta que quiero y puedo si postergarlas no afecta a nadie más, en sanar mis emociones lo cual está aún en proceso con sus altibajos normales porque es un largo camino donde a veces tengo recaídas y me desconecto del mundo, no quiero hablar ni socializar con nadie, ni que me digan nada, pero ya cuando pasa la crisis retorno al ruedo a seguir dando la batalla, aunque a veces regreso medio perdida al punto que no me acuerdo ni de lo que tengo qué hacer y ahora vivo en un mundo de alarmas… alarma para la pastilla de la tensión, alarma para cualquier medicina, y hasta para algo pendiente por hacer, pero me he acostumbrado, es parte del proceso de recuperación y de amarme a mí misma. >>The pandemic arrives, I close the workshop as a precaution, it is necessary to reinvent myself, new work ideas come, I created several enterprises that by law took me full time, Hive arrives to my life, and my mother, who was already sick and came to live with me, begins to get worse. Thank God, between her and my comadre, they gave me a lot of support so that I did not faint in the process. When my mother died, my anxiety had already reached the moon, now it was depressive anxiety and by law I had to comply with the treatment and recommendations.... and it was then that for the first time in many years, I started to think about myself, about my basic needs, about being my priority and being at the top of that list, about dedicating myself full time, about doing things when I feel I want to and I can if procrastinating doesn't affect anyone else, in healing my emotions which is still in process with its normal ups and downs because it is a long road where sometimes I have relapses and I disconnect from the world, I do not want to talk or socialize with anyone, or to be told anything, but when the crisis passes I return to the arena to continue fighting the battle, although sometimes I return half lost to the point that I do not even remember what I have to do and now I live in a world of alarms ... Alarm for the blood pressure pill, alarm for any medicine, and even for something pending to do, but I have gotten used to it, it is part of the process of recovery and of loving myself.

Hoy en día he sabido organizarme para hacer todo lo que me gusta, incluso estando sola, es placentero, pero a veces rompo esquemas y disfruto otras cosas que me reconfortan emocionalmente, como hacer yoga, ir al gym, reunirme con amigas, y viajar; siendo mi hija siempre mi cómplice en todas estas aventuras porque es quien permanece más cerca de mí, es por eso que me siento cada día más un Ave Fénix, que cae y al poco tiempo vuelve a levantarse de sus propias cenizas con más fuerza que antes, y agradecida con Dios porque por fin, "Hoy sólo estoy para mí". >>Today I have been able to organize myself to do everything I like, even being alone, it is pleasant, but sometimes I break schemes and enjoy other things that comfort me emotionally, like doing yoga, going to the gym, meeting with friends, and traveling; being my daughter always my accomplice in all these adventures because she is the one who stays closer to me, that is why I feel every day more like a Phoenix Bird, which falls and soon after rises again from its own ashes with more strength than before, and grateful to God because finally, "Today I am only for me".
