Distant Memories

The word distant can conjure up memories of places and people gone by. It can imply the huge distance created between an old life, family, friends, and old acquaintances. The distant relationships that we now have due to taking a certain path.

When looking back at distant memories, they can bring up some strong emotions that over time could not be explained. But after a while and with experience, it may be possible to recognise them.

The fork in the road is clearly seen and how far and wide you have traveled. Yet when you first set out, it was all still fresh and new. You couldn't imagine the breaking of the bonds. The search for adventure and excitement was still so fresh in your mind.

Is it noticeable because of a change from immaturity to maturity? Why the fascination with looking back at major changing points in your life? Nostalgia? Did the relationships pan out as you had expected?

The strong feelings with the word distant can be because of the passing of so much time away from familiar places and people you have spent much time with.

This could also be exasperated by you being far away from the place and people and visiting less and less often. Perhaps you are separated by sea or just a long distance.

Do you have happy or sad feelings? or even some regrets? Was your relationship as strong or sound as you had expected? What would it have been like if you hadn't taken that fork in the road? Things would have stayed the same and you could have stayed in the safety of familiarity and maintained the same relationships with people and the places you knew.

The longer you stay in the same place, the stronger your comfort zone becomes. But if some distance can change things, is it a worthwhile endeavor to get up and change direction?

What about the new path? Was it worth it? Are the feelings you get with the word distant related to your feeling that you have made the right choices? Were the new places, people, and experiences worth it? Was it worth the risk?

Are these thoughts related to your own personal changes and developments? Chasing and persuing your own goals, but did you consider all the factors and consequences and was it worth it?
