My husband cooked the quail eggs and a regular egg this morning. I told him that I wanted to take a picture of them. I did not think about asking him for a bite, so I do not know what they taste like. He said he could not tell the difference between the quail eggs and the chicken egg.
I think we have more than one male quail, which is not good for getting eggs. Three of the 5 look smaller and lighter in color. I do not know if that is a tell, tell sign or not, but one was crowing and it sounded different from the one we heard crow yesterday.
They keep pooping in their water so my husband built a little box for the water to sit on, but we have not seen them drink from it since he put it up there. He has water in another dish and they are drinking out of it.
I want you to know this is my husband's way of thinking, not mine. He said he was wondering how quail have sex. The way their bodies are built, it would be hard for him to mount her.
Today he found out how they do it. The male grabbed the female by the neck and threw her on her side, 1 2 3 he was done. He got up and shook his feathers, then fluffed them up and strutted around like he was a butterball turkey. We better hope that we do not have 3 males because these 2 females are going to get "roughed" up.
I can see it now, our next money making idea, anyone interested in sightseeing tours of bird porn. That does not sound right to me, so there will be no tours.
