#freewrite #weekend :: Single Prompt Option: frozen pond

He opened his eyes slowly, wondering. It has been a week and it was still hard. In the past, it wasn't like this. Usually, by the time he was awake from his long sleep, it would have all been ready for him.

This year, it seemed so long, too long in fact. He wondered when would it be ready. The sun looked brighter today but not bright enough he thought. But he should take a walk there.

Slowly, he stood up before stretching his muscles. He has never felt so weak before. He needed his fuel but he couldn't find any. He was too weak but he had to go check. Today may be his lucky day.

The path was clear and it didn't look like it snowed last night. Neither did it looked like it snowed a few nights before either. But it still felt cold. There seemed to be some hope, just a slight one.

He thought he heard some birds chirping but it didn't last that long. Maybe he was imagining it. He kept walking as quickly as he could as the chilly cold air was biting his skin even though he was covered in thick hair.

When he reached, he treaded slowly and carefully toward the direction, hoping. But to his disappointment, it was still a frozen pond. He looked around for some signs of life but there was none. Guess he would have to head back and continue to hibernate with no chance to fish, his fuel.
