#freewrite :: Prompt for Day 1283: bird's nest

"Drink this dear." Susie looked up and saw her mother, standing by the door, holding a tray with a small bowl. Her mother walked to her and placed the tray by the side of her table.

Susie, has had her nose stuck in her books everyday since last 3 months, preparing for her exam next week and didn't realise her mother coming in. It wasn't her first time sitting for the exam. She has failed twice and she hoped that third time's a charm.

Her mother has been really supportive of her, always asking her to keep trying, reminding her to not give up. She knew it wasn't easy for her mother either, seeing her going through failure after failure.

Susie felt like a disappointment most times thinking about it. Her mother has been working three jobs to help pay for her studies after her father was killed in a hit and run accident five years ago.

Her mother patted her back and kissed her head, before the leaving the room. Susie felt her eyes well up as she saw the bowl of bird's nest soup with red dates, hand peeled gingko and lotus seed. Her mother must have stayed up the whole night, double boiling for hours on charcoal fire.
