Double Pointed Surprise | Freewrite

Karen had spent most of her day on her feet shopping, cooking, cleaning the house and putting it in good order. She enjoyed her reclusive life at forty three that consisted usually of gardening in the morning, blogging in the afternoon and playing bridge or knitting with friends in the evenings.

Anthony, her twin brother, had called in that morning saying he would come over to spend the night at her apartment. Karen was not surprised. Anthony was sociable, outgoing and like her, was single. It definitely meant he would attend a party close by and pass the night at her apartment.

She cleaned it up and prepared his favourite meals. On occasions like this, Anthony would want to spend the whole night with her to keep each other company and catch up.

It was 8 pm and there was no word from Anthony yet. Karen settled into her backyard swing, picked up her knitting needles and knitted for a while in silence, humming softly to herself. Then she heard a creak sound behind her which meant someone or something had stepped on the old floor boards behind her.

Karen remembered she was alone and her phone was inside the house. She held her double pointed knitting needles in a way that would help her stab anything or anyone that dared touch her from…

"Seriously? Your knitting needles are your defense weapon?" Anthony asked incredulously behind her.

Karen breathed a sigh of relief, angrily turned on Anthony and gave him a punch in the stomach. "Why would you scare me like that, you nutjob?"

Anthony doubled over, laughing. "Yea and your knitting needles are just perfect to stab me to death!"

"Can't you use the front door like a normal person?" She asked. Anthony instead of teasing her some more hugged her instead. It's been months since he spent time with his twin sister.
