Day 1153: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: describe the your front door

"We need to get going, honey." Jeneth scarfed as her husband stared at the television. She'd been dressed an hour ago and sat down on the couch, tapping her foot up and down several times. The noise was intended to interrupt the outcome of the second quarter's end to the game.

Her attempts at disruption fell on deaf ears as the wireless plugs were dug deep in Prynce's ear. He'd gone into battle before unarmed. This time, the earplugs gave him an excuse to ignore the gentle nudging.

Half an hour later, Prynce removed the wireless earplugs, and returned them to their charging station.

He proceeded to the kitchen. Lunch and drink prepared, he sat down at the bar. Motioning to Jeneth to join him on the closest stool, he tried to ignore her efforts to rebuff his offer.

"Now describe the front door again and tell me why it's important to have this particular one."

He hadn't forgotten her previous description. The effort was to ease the tension so he could enjoy the curried chicken with raisins sandwich.

"I've told you already that the design of this particular door is perfect for our new home. It has stained glass encased in a wood frame. The color is a beautiful maroon with four separate panes. It's an impressive design that's intricately woven. Each pane's design scrolls point in a different direction. It reflects a chocolate color if your eye catches it in just the right position. It's absolutely gorgeous, and it only costs $1,000."

Jeneth's eyes were wide as the smile on her face Prynce heart almost fell for the excitement in her voice while describing the new piece of furniture called "the front door".

"Wait a minute. Why do we need a front door different than the one that comes standard from the builder? That one looked fine, especially considering the cost of the new home with the add-ons you already requested. Now, you know we agreed there would be less out of pocket costs. We don't want to be house poor."

That last statement changed everything. Jeneth knew darn well that would not be the case of busting their budget set for the house. He was just being him.

"The builder is waiting for us to choose. The nearest Home Depot has this new designer model. It's very popular, so we need to make a decision today. I wanted your opinion since we agreed to share everything in this process."

Those darn promises always come back to bite you, he thought. Without a word, he finished the sandwich, got dressed, grabbed the keys, and headed out the door with wife in tow.

As usual, the neighborhood home improvement store was crowded. Janeth and Prynce finally located the correct section and caught the attention of the salesperson. To her dismay, the designer front door she fell in love with was sold out in-store and online.

The salesman offered to show them several alternatives that were more expensive. He waited for Janeth to give the signal to proceed.

She nodded in his direction, then signaled for Prynce to step to the side for a private conversation.

"That winning bet on the football game earlier will just about cover your portion of the newest front door you're about to purchase."

Procrastination pays sometimes, she thought as she smiled widely at her husband, gave him a kiss on the cheek, tucked her arm inside his, then allowed the salesman to escort them so he could describe the front door that will be inserted in their new home.
