Fallen Interactions | A 5-Minute FreeWrite

Today, our interactions were quite affected by the collapse of Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp. It made me think about how much we rely on these and other media/apps for our daily interactions, which can include vital aspects of our professional lives (in the case of Whatsapp). I was in the middle of an urgent money transaction and it was very stressful to figure things out when communication fell and there were no options available (our intermitent internet service does not help in these cases).

Anyway, I decided to write on today's prompt (another coincidence?) in the form of a sonnet.

Fallen Interactions!

Shall we rely on social media?
Trust them with our human interactions?
Shall we only trust Wikipedia
for all our academic transactions?

Today Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp
fell, sending us all into panic mode.
We assume their security is crap
Or probably some hacker stole their code.

How much freedom yielded? We should ponder.
We have relinquished more than privacy.
Why, it’s hard to see their power yonder!
Until we are hit by cyber piracy.

Tied to these tech giants we are somehow;
If down falls the wild horse, so does the cow.
