A Good Thing Is Hard to Find | A 5-Minutes FreeWrite

I try every day, believe it or not. Every day, I try to find a good thing this government has done. I can’t. I haven’t been able to point at one single good thing they have done. Even the seemingly positive measures they take, like importing a bunch of modern buses from China, end up being a bad thing when you realize that after a year or so there are no buses from China running and there are tons of lots turned into bus cemeteries.

They plant a bunch of trees, then they forget those trees need water. They give the elders a pension, then they sink that pension into hyperinflation and old people die in lines to collect less than $2 worth of pension.

They give college students free everything, but they make sure all universities disappear so students have nothing to do with all their free stuff.

They promise free medical attention, and you saw in my recent posts what kind of medical attention we can get for free.

When you think they have done plenty of bad things, they come up with fancy new ones to add to the pile.

A couple of days ago Maduro announced the creation of a “communal city” on Cerro El Avila (the only good thing Caracas had before it was renamed Waraira Repano). They renamed the damn hill with its indigenous name (in Carib language) to allegedly honor our Indians and their legacy. Never mind the National Park is pretty unsafe, burns every year without any preventive measures or program being implemented, and now to make matters worse, they plant to develop a “city”.

Not even Henry David Thoreau would have come up with an ambitious project like this (and try he did). With the environmentalist record of this revolution, exemplified in the Arco Minero, we can foretell a lot of "good" things coming out of this idea.

A Communal City in a National Park. They have not been able to manage the regular cities; they actually turned them into deserted pigsties, and they plan to build a self-sustained city that will eliminate the traditional government instances such as the Mayor.

In accordance with article 4 of the proposed law, the communal city: "It is an instance constituted by popular initiative through the grouping of communes in a determined territorial area based on functional and geohistorical dynamics, with common interests and values, where sovereignty and protagonist participation are exercised as an expression of People's Power.” (my emphasis).

For 20 years they have been throwing random combination of pompous words to mean a good thing. After twenty years, if one has been listening and watching, one knows better. The more pompous and incomprehensible the phrase, the worse the results of the crazy ideas.

So much for people’s power. A communist experiment in a national park would only be inhabited by their kind. That might be the only good thing about it. It would be great if they could have their own country and leave us in peace.
