Soup is soup for the hungry man, he does not seem to know the difference. This is my experience when I am hungry, I don't care if it is salty or it has too much pepper, I just dig in. But after the meal, then I can make comments.
The truth is that a thick soup is actually rich in nature, it contains quality contents and the cook would not want to spoil it with water. It often comes out well. I guess the choice of soup would be according to the preference we have.
