Left handed people are rare in a way, it can be one in 40 persons. But it's quite the show when you find them, it suddenly becomes obvious. They act like they are doing something huge, especially when they are writing. Left footed players are more common than the left handed people. So, struck left-handed can mean anything, being struck by a left-handed person, stricken left-handed. Any of the above would suit the situation.
