It came to my attention few weeks ago that barely every location in the world takes it's bearing from the North. If a person is lost, and he is trying to locate the cardinal points, hell start by navigating the north, then he will use the north to figure out the rest. North have a common advantage of having large land mass, its good. So, the north is a reference point to people. Then, navigate!
