It’s kind of great when you think about it and from the look of things, it promises to be a great last month of the year. Although the weather is still refusing to be in the festive season with the rest of us, not with the sun being so hot as if it’s punishing us for something we did, and Harmattan being almost nonexistent. But still, there are so many things that are going great already and it’s beautiful to watch them unfold. This is actually one of the highlights of students, the final day of your exams, and seeing as it’s something that is only going to come once in a lifetime for many of us, the least you can do is to go with the flow and enjoy it as well. After the final years have written, it’s normal to see many of them gathered around in groups and taking pictures. In my department, Electrical Electronics Engineering, the finalists wore Hi-Vis safety jackets and hard hat helmets. We all started ND1 together and I would have been graduating with them, but I chose to spend an extra year at home after my one-year IT. So, in a way, this is also my win because I’m really happy for them. However, the main point of this is not really the signing out. It’s actually what comes after. Yesterday was really noisy in my area as the students at home celebrated their grandaunts in a totally different fashion. And by “pour you water”, I don’t mean they will simply pour it on you. No, they will stone you with water! Kind of like the way firefighters don’t just pour water on fire to put it out! Generators were turned on just to pump water, bags and bags of sachet water were bought and unleashed on those who finished yesterday. And by the time it was over, the streets looked like it had rained sachet water. But that wasn’t even the end of it! Knock-outs are in season and yesterday the only woman who sold them in my area sold them all out as boys didn’t let us hear word. And happen again tomorrow. Because students will be signing out every day now and they’ll be celebrating it. Even if you don’t want to, they’ll come to your room and celebrate it for you. By pouring you water of course. It’s all fun and games. This is something you only get to do once in your life, so I can’t begrudge anyone the pleasure. Even though you go to another school and graduate again, you might not have that kind of fun again. Now, not everyone is up for the baptism, I have a friend who locked himself up in his room because he didn’t want them to pour him water. I still have another session to go and as it stands I could get the baptism and I couldn’t. You know I’m a father figure in society and it wouldn’t do for people to see me running around drenched to my bone now, would it?😋. But then, you really only live once, right?🤔 Either way, all that is next year’s problem. I still have a long time to figure out what I’ll do when the time comes.
