The need to get recognised by the government and other cooperate bodies drove Ikenna to liase with other cocoa farmers to form a cooperative body. Initially, his colleagues did not buy the idea. Ikenna took time to explain to them the merits and demerits of having a cocoa cooperative. At this point most of them bought the idea and he began the basic work for their registration as such.

It took him barely three months to gather all the necessary documentations and approvals sequel to the relevant government authority registering them as a cocoa cooperative society. Ikenna was thus happy that his dream did not falter.

He was elected as the cooperative protem chairman in recognition of his dexterity and vision. Ikenna was happy and told his colleagues that his election is just a call to service and after their registration he was made the first chairman of the cooperative society. He contacted the state government for a formal recognition which request was approved. A day was then set out for their formal inauguration by the agricultural minister.

On the day of their inauguration, Ikenna charged all members of the cooperative to dress formally so as to stand out from their invited guests and the general public. They all complied and the cocoa cooperative society was formally inaugurated and/or recognised by the government to the admiration of all. In his appreciation speech Ikenna summarised the whole idea leading to the birth of the cooperative this: "It takes the will power of an individual to initiate a process and then have it come to fruition".

He then went on to enumerate the numerous benefits members stand to gain by associating themselves with the cooperative society. After their inauguration, more people joined them and their number increased astronomically.
