The national team of Ugwu Republic has always been a force to reckon with within their continent. They always appear as one of the representives of their continent in in major tournaments staged.
They have variously engaged many coaches and managers to handle their national team but most times they fail to progress beyond the first round of major competitions. The bulk of such coaches and managers are foreign nationals.
However, there was a time they engaged a local coach who managed to take them to the knockout stages of the world cup. He was however relieved of his duties immediately after the competition of that year as a result of "corruption", that is, by insisting on an invitee greasing his palms before such a player can be called up to the national team.
But having failed to qualify for either a continental tourney or even a regional tournament for years, they decided to resort to the local coach because hIs previous engagement as the national team coach produced the best result so far for the team.
