The Doku FC is a household name in the world of soccer. They have won many laurels, both in their domestic league and at the international level.
Recently, the team has seen some decline in it's fortune in that they managed to come second in their league, missing out with a huge point margin from the top team. The league champions gave them a twelve point gap to clinch the domestic trophy.
At the international level, the Doku FC was grouped with the finest teams from other countries. Most sports fans tipped them to progress from the group with ease considering their pedigree at the international level. But they managed to scrap a win at home in their opening campaign against a debutant team. They went ahead to record two losses in the succeeding matches.
They needed a win or even a draw to progress as second best team from their group. It was a home match too. Everybody gave it to them. But there is a snag there...they are playing against the defending champions. In the opening ten minutes the Doku team had conceded twice. A third followed before half time.
When the match was resumed after half time the defending champions added two more goals to bring the tally to five goals to nothing. The last straw that broke the camel's back was at the stroke of time Doku conceded a late goal with virtually the last kick of the game. This meant that Doku can no longer progress from the group to the next stage.
During the post match analysis, the Doku FC captain said "this is a brutal defeat to us. The boys morale is down. But we shall bounce back come next season". On his own part the Doku FC team coach also described the defeat as brutal considering the manner his team was trounced mercilessly.
