5 Minutes Freewrite: Sunday Prompt - The Good Preacher

Source

In times of politicking, people will be innundated with many promises by politicians to the citizenry. They'll talk about delivering the dividend of democracy to the common man; how they will electrify everywhere and provide the necessary essential amenities to the people. All is however geared towards securing the votes of the people and nothing more.

Most of these politicians have occupied elected offices without showing anything for it other than massive looting and severe clampdown of the opposition. These are however prevalent in the developing countries and the so called "third world" countries.

But a lone voice is heard from afar singing a new song, so to say. The lonely voice x-rays the misdeeds of the last administration and promises a better life to change the condition of things should he or his party gets elected. He preaches day in day out. He has come to be known as the good preacher. People listened to him with rapt attention. And on the day of the pools the people were swayed by his sweet messages.and voted for his party enmass and they won.

Now elected, the good preacher turned to the old guard and recruited most of them as his advisers. Soon his government was formed. The people kept looking with mouth agape. In no distant time the government of the preacher becomes even worse than his predecessor. The change mantra becomes an illusion. Soon the people begins to yearn for another change. But the danger there is that another smooth talking preacher/politician will emerge and also sweet talk the people into delivering him to the office. Once he goes in, he gets corrupted by the system and becomes even worse than those he succeeded in office....the dangers of being a politician.
