Honourable Plang was elected to represent his people of Dawas in the legislative house. Just barely three months into his tenure and a lawmaker he suffered some cardiac arrest and died therefrom. The run-off election to replace him was billed to take place in the next coming week.

There are two contenders to the seat. Chief Okon of the CNR and Chief Emem of the NND party. Campaigns by the various camps are always tense and most times violent. The people however prefer Chief Emem to his political rival chief Okon. Chief Emem narrowly lost out to the late Honourable Plang in the just concluded election. He was thus seen by all as a well- meaning citizen and a philanthropist. The body language of the people show that Chief Emem will be returned the winner of the election this time around.

The camp of Chief Okon read the handwriting on the wall and became fully agitated. They employed campaign of calumny to discredit Chief Emem but that didn't work. They tried vote buying and it also failed. They thought of what to do and finally came up with the idea of taking him away from the contest once and for all.

On the eve of the election, Chief Okon sent his killer squad (numbering about ten) to visit the house of his political rival chief Emem. When they got to his house, they overpowered his security-men and went straight into the living room. There they found chief Emem helpless. He was asked to lie face down. Dazed with fear chief Emem complied and was profusely begging for mercy which of course fell on deaf ears. He was handcuffed and his face covered with a hood. One of the hitmen pulled out his locally made riffle and murdered chief Emem. Thereafter they all fled the house.

The next morning news of the murder of Chief Emem filtered into the town. People wailed and lamented over the brutal murder of the Chief. All fingers were pointed toward the direction of his political rival but no one could summon the courage to confront Chief Okon and his group over the incident.
