Near the Yangtze River is an incredible example of how nature regained what at the beginning was belonged to her. Goji Island, one of 394 Shangsi Islands, is located off the east coast of China.

The island has preserved some of the most beautiful abandoned settlements in the whole archipelago. This village was a quiet fishing village, until the small bay stopped supporting the ever-growing number of fishing boats.

According to National geography of Chinese, this town was built in the 1950s and once had about 3,000 inhabitants. It was the liveliest village on Shenshan Island.

However, due to the economic upheaval that took place in China, fishing by hand became an unprofitable occupation, as a result of which residents had to leave their home.

Gradually, day after day, thick creeping plants covered the walls of houses. They literally swallowed every abandoned house.
In just a few decades, the village has become an abandoned paradise completely engulfed in ivy.

Nature reclaimed its territory and turned the villages into a fairy-tale country. Due to its lush greenery and intriguing history, the island has become a hot spot for tourists.

In fact, these days tourists are the only thing that keeps the former fishing village from empty space. Curious travelers really want to see these spooky landscapes with their own eyes.
