Hoy les presento un humilde tributo a una de las caricaturas más grotescas, satíricas e irreverentes de los 90´s y que trazó el camino a muchas otras de hoy en día. Se trata de “Ren y Stimpy", creada por John Kricfalusi y transmitida por Nickelodeon.
El show giraba en torno a las situaciones protagonizadas por un psicótico chihuahua (Ren) en compañía de un gato bastante idiota (Stimpy). La serie era de un humor muy negro, incluso considerada perturbadora, a pesar de transmitirse en un canal infantil. Destacaban las escenas animadas violentas, personajes grotescos (como Olorín, el hijo de Stimpy, que no es otra cosa que una flatulencia de él mismo) y acercamientos de cámara con detalles asquerosos. Es una de mis favoritas y siempre estará en mi corazón.

Today I present a humble tribute to one of the most grotesque, satirical and irreverent cartoons of the 90's and that paved the way for many others of today. It's about "The Ren & Stimpy Show", created by John Kricfalusi and broadcast on Nickelodeon.
The show revolved around the situations starring a psychotic chihuahua (Ren) in the company of a rather idiotic cat (Stimpy). The series had a very black humor, even considered disturbing, despite being broadcast on a children's channel. The violent animated scenes, grotesque characters (like Stinky, Stimpy's son, who is nothing more than a flatulence of himself) and camera close-ups with disgusting details stood out. It is one of my favorites and it will always be in my heart.
Para esta recreación, simplemente me basé en que Ren es un chihuahua, los cuales siempre andan temblorosos, son delgados y tienen esos ojos desorbitados mirando en todas las direcciones. Son animales que parecen bastante neuróticos (probablemente por eso John Kricfalusi eligió este animal para representar a Ren). Además, en el show era muy común ver episodios donde brotaba la locura de Ren con aquella risa maniaca que le daba un toque aún más inquietante. Algunas imágenes del proceso de creación:
For this recreation, I simply rely on the fact that Ren is a chihuahua, who is always shaking, is thin, and has bulging eyes looking in all directions. They are animals that seem quite neurotic (probably why John Kricfalusi chose this animal to represent Ren). In addition, in the show it was very common to see episodes where Ren's madness erupted with that maniacal laugh that gave it an even more disturbing touch. Some images of the creation process:

Esta animación fue realizada en Blender 2D, generada en formato Gif con un complemento que le instalé al software. No quise hacer una copia fiel del personaje, como es costumbre le di mi toque personal a la recreación. Dibujé varios grupos de capas de líneas y colores, de manera que se pueda mover cada parte del personaje de manera independiente; las manos temblorosas, la movilidad en las pupilas y la respiración en el torso. La paleta de colores está inspirada en el personaje original, con algunas variaciones, por ejemplo: la lengua verde y dientes amarillos.

This animation was made in Blender 2D, generated in Gif format with a plug-in that I installed to the software. I did not want to make a faithful copy of the character, as is customary I gave my personal touch to the recreation. I drew several groups of layers of lines and colors, so that each part of the character can be moved independently; the shaking hands, the mobility in the pupils and the breathing in the torso. The color palette is inspired by the original character, with some variations, for example: the green tongue and yellow teeth.
