Second Place

I don’t know what’s at the end of this road
But I’m carrying a heavy load
Not sure what I’m headed for
But I’m looking at second place.

Stalking old enemies
Why waste my time?
Life moves faster
When one lets go.

I could moan about it
Have a tantrum and cry
Over someone else’s happiness
But it’s likely a lie.

A façade is as real as it feels
To those looking on
But those who know
Laugh long at the show
And go about their day
With authentic joy.
