Today I want to talk about a science fiction and mystery anime that became very controversial last year because of an episode that disturbed a lot of people, which made it very well known all over the internet. But, other than that, this series is one of the best rated by critics and audiences alike for its excellent animation, story and characters. El día de hoy les quiero hablar de un anime de ciencia ficción y misterio que se volvió muy polémico el año pasado por un episodio que perturbó a mucha gente, lo cual hizo que fuera muy conocido en todo internet. Pero, fuera de esto, esta serie es una de las mejores calificadas por la crítica y la audiencia, ya sea tanto por su excelente animación, historia y personajes. Animado por el estudio Production I.G, la serie está basada en el manga homónimo de Masakazu Ishiguro y lo recomiendo bastante para los que son fanáticos de los mundos apocalípticos e historias que pueden ser desilusionantes.
This anime has fun in two stories, in one is a girl named Tokio who lives in a kind of reform school along with a group of young people where they have grown up and have been raised since they were born, without knowing the outside world. One day, she finds a message on a piece of paper saying "Do you want to know the outside world?", while thinking about what can be found on the other side. What is striking is that the leader of the place does her best not to allow people to go outside while experimenting with the young people and children of the place.
On the other hand, the second story introduces us to a boy named Maru who is accompanied by a girl named Kiruko and they travel around Japan in ruins, after a huge catastrophe has wiped out society, turning it into a post-apocalyptic world. However, the worst of it all is not only that they wander around the country knowing devastated places with strange people traumatized by the world situation, but they also have to worry about horrendous and dangerous creatures that roam the country eating people alive. They both go in search of a place they call "Eden" where mankind can supposedly be safe.

Este anime se divierte en dos historias, en una se encuentra una chica llamada Tokio que vive en una especie de reformatorio junto con un grupo de jóvenes donde han crecido y han sido criados desde que nacieron, sin conocer el mundo exterior. Un día, ella encuentra un mensaje en un papel diciendo “¿Quieres conocer el mundo exterior?”, mientras que piensa en qué es lo que se puede encontrar en el otro lado. Lo que llama la atención es que la líder del lugar hace todo lo posible para no permitir que la gente pueda salir al exterior mientras experimenta con los jóvenes y niños del lugar.

Honestly, this anime fascinated me a lot, apart from having traumatized me a little, due to the excellent combination of science fiction, mystery and post-apocalyptic worlds. As for the animation, it is one of the best that Production I.G. has done so far, with a perfect combination of 2D and 3D, as well as visual effects and a very well done CGI. The sound effects are also good, with a soundtrack and Opening that is one of my favorites. The way the creatures that appear are designed is fascinating, which generates that feeling of horror and suspense that the series gives you at certain moments. There is also the detail of what many call "fanservice" which is seen at certain times, but does not affect much to the story itself and causes you intrigue regarding characters like Kiruko, for example (which I will not say more to not give Spoilers).

Sinceramente, este anime me fascinó mucho, aparte de haberme traumado un poco, debido a la excelente combinación de ciencia ficción, misterio y los mundos postapocalípticos. Sin embargo, no solo es eso lo que llama la atención, sino también la parte de historia, la cual te atrapa con un estilo y forma de contar que genera intriga a la vez que vas conociendo cada detalle. Por otro lado, los personajes son también un punto muy importante en este anime por lo excelentemente desarrollados que están, haciendo que en ciertos momentos te sientas familiarizado con ellos, a la vez que te genera un sinfín de sentimientos.
En cuanto a la animación, es una de las mejores que ha realizado Production I.G hasta el momento, con una perfecta combinación del 2D con el 3D, amén de efectos visuales y un CGI muy bien hecho. Los efectos de sonidos también están bien, con una banda sonora y Opening que es de mis favoritos. La forma de diseñar las criaturas que aparecen es fascinante, lo cual genera ese sentimiento de horror y suspenso que te da dicha serie en ciertos momentos. También está el detalle de lo que muchos llaman “fanservice” el cual se ve en ciertos momentos, pero que no afectan mucho a la historia en sí y te causa intriga con respecto a personajes como Kiruko, por ejemplo (la cual no diré más para no dar Spoilers).

The characters are a special case, for while you see several interesting relationships in both stories, there is also the fact of what they are going through, the effect their decisions have with the people around them and the opinion and thoughts of each one. The development given to the characters are very well done, giving us even cases of personality and existential crisis in a context that can become even disturbing. With a touch of comedy that lightens the mood a bit, this anime has everything you need to experience one of the darkest and most disillusioning adventures of your entire life.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating as far as the sci-fi/mystery genre is concerned.

Pero, lo que más me llama la atención es la forma de contar dos historias en una sola, lo cual te hace prestar más de la acostumbrada atención a dicho anime al ver esta mezcla tan curiosa, la cual te hace pensar en la relación que tiene entre ambas. También está el caso de los temas que muchas veces se mencionan a lo largo del anime, como por ejemplo el caso del mismo personaje de Kiruko o de dónde salió Maru. También hay temas como las relaciones interpersonales, casos de abusos, experimentos con seres humanos y el origen de dicha catástrofe.
Los personajes son un caso especial, ya que si bien es cierto que se ven varias relaciones interesantes en ambas historias, también está el hecho de lo que están viviendo, el efecto que tiene sus decisiones con la gente de su alrededor y la opinión y pensamientos de cada uno. El desarrollo que le dan a los personajes están muy bien hechos, dándonos hasta casos de crisis de personalidad y existencial en un contexto que puede llegar a ser hasta perturbador. Con un toque de comedia que alegra un poco el ambiente, este anime tiene todo lo que necesitas para que vivas una de las aventuras más oscuras y desilusionantes de toda tu vida.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de la ciencia ficción y el misterio.
