As I mentioned in my previous post, The FIDE Online Olympiad for people with disabilities is ongoing…!
This event was supposed to be played in Russia in mid-July but as you know Covid has spoiled everyone's plans; fortunately, Chess is one of the best sports in terms of adaptability, while the footballers stay at home the chess players go to play online.

Honestly, this is being a challenge for us, I mean, playing chess is such an enjoyable activity but playing online is totally different; Venezuela is well-known for being a place where blackouts and internet crashes are extremely frequent, so it makes you think twice when it comes to an event as important as this one. Our federation has tried to provide us with the best playing facilities. They got me a great room in a five-star hotel with excellent internet connection, not to mention that it's super quiet, so I can't actually complain about it.

I wanted to write something yesterday when the Olympics were inaugurated but it has been a little difficult, however here I am and I will give you a brief review of what has happened in the paralympics so far.
Yesterday, in the first round we lost against the strong Indian team, precisely because of the connectivity issues; two of our strongest players had technical failures when the game was going on, so the team captain decided to play with a different lineup for today.

Today's match was against the team from Mali, we ended up winning, this time they had problems with connectivity on the zoom platform, in view of that the arbiter had no choice but to concede victory for our team on all 4 boards, it is sad but in the end the conditions of the event are quite clear.
I will try to keep you guys informed as much as possible, you can follow the event by clicking the links down below.

See you soon hivers…!
