Tips and tricks!

  • If you want to give your art some depth - try using three "layers" - for the background - the most blurred one, for your character - sharp one, and the last one for foreground element - also blurred, but les than the background.
  • want to add some magic? - use light dots and play with their opacity. Easy and attractive.
  • Thing about contrasts - they are very important and pleasant for the eye!
  • Would you like to add some life to your character? Light dots in the eyes work well. Remember to add there on the opposite side of the pupil to your light source!
  • Remember about reflective light! It will make your light-shadows effect more realistic ^^
  • Try to use opposite colors for lights and shadows. If your light is orange - try to use blue shadow. If red - how about green shadows?
  • If you want to stylize your character more - think about solid shapes of it. Round shapes work perfectly for females, they are gentle and more "friendly". Squares are related to strength and triangles for moves and villains (I'm just sharing with you an idea - would be great if you read more about it. It's a great topic!).
  • Add some red color for cheeks, nose, ears, and fingers - also to put some life into your character
  • Try different brushes - even just for fun!
