Hi, I'm Jonathan McCallum (more from me @jonamccallum), and this is my first interview on Hive with @alejandra.her (50% of Hive given to this post will go to the artist through the Beneficiary option.)

Alejandra, what are some of the emotions related to this art piece?

I like to tell complex stories through illustration. This work is a set of feelings, emotions and situations with which we can all identify. That feeling of not knowing whether you float or sink is perhaps what led me to do it. It is a way of expressing my confusion about many things; the uncertainty that overwhelms us especially in this physical and social confinement that we call lockdown.

Alejandra, ¿Cuales son algunas de las emociones relacionadas con esta obra?

Me gusta narrar historias complejas a través de la ilustración. Esta obra es un conjunto de sentimientos, emociones y situaciones con las que todos podemos identificarnos. Ese sentimiento de no saber ni flotas o te hundes es quizás el que me llevó a hacerla. Es una manera de expresar mi confusión ante muchas cosas; la incertidumbre que nos embarga especialmente en este encierro físico y social que llamamos cuarentena.

We are a little bit of the whole world. We are the people around us, the news we read, the gentle breeze blowing somewhere in the world. The tired face when we woke up early in the morning and couldn't keep sleeping. The clock that tells us that we are too late, or too early, or that we are in the wrong year, in the wrong time. The answer in our hand, without even having the key to decipher it; the melting reality; the cigarette smoke of that man in the next window, which we dislike but makes us want to smoke next to him. Let's fly, spread your wings/hands; and remember that your hands serve to hold on to your principles, but they also serve to send people to hell. That monster called anxiety that came to stay taking advantage of all the time that our door will remain closed. Yes, maybe we need to see things in a different light, with different eyes, with other lives. Perhaps this reality is too suspicious to be true. Perhaps they are not things that float but things that sink. Everything is so fishy. Perhaps, perhaps, Perhaps.

Somos un poquito de todo el mundo. Somos las personas que nos rodean, las noticias que vemos, la suave brisa que sopla en algún lado del mundo. La cara de agotamiento cuando nos despertamos en la madrugada y no pudimos seguir durmiendo. El reloj que nos dice que llegamos tarde, que llegamos muy temprano, o que nos equivocamos de año o de siglo. El secreto que sostenemos, sin tener siquiera la llave para descifrarlo, la realidad que se derrite, el humo del cigarrillo de aquel señor en la ventana de al lado, que nos incomoda pero nos hace querer fumar a su lado. Vamos a volar, abre tus alas/manos; y recuerda que las manos sirven para asirse fuerte a tus principios, pero también sirven para mandar al demonio a la gente. Ese monstruo llamado ansiedad que vino para quedarse aprovechando todo el tiempo que nuestra puerta permanecerá cerrada. Si, tal vez necesitemos ver las cosas a una luz diferente, con otros ojos, con otras vidas. Tal vez esta realidad sea demasiado sospechosa para ser cierta. Tal vez no sean cosas que flotan sin cosas que se hunden. Todo es tan sospechoso. Tal vez, Tal vez, Tal vez…

Alejandra, How do you think NFT's will assist artists?

I think that through NFTs,we as artists can communicate our vision of the world to the public in a very effective way, sell our artworks and continue making art. For an artist who is just beginning her/his career, it can be very expensive and difficult to exhibit artworks and find potential buyers. However, NFTs have allowed us to put our traditional and digital works on the market, register them as authentic, sell them, and receive royalties on sales on the secondary market. It is a respectful system that vindicates the artist from every point of view.

Alejandra, ¿Cómo crees que NFT ayudará a las artistas?

Creo que a través de los NFT los artistas podemos hacer llegar al público nuestra visión del mundo de una manera muy eficaz, vender nuestras obras y continuar haciendo arte. Para un artista que apenas empieza su carrera puede llegar a ser muy costoso y difícil exponer sus obras y conseguir potenciales compradores. Sin embargo, los NFT nos han permitido poner en el mercado nuestras obras tradicionales y digitales, registrarlas como auténticas, venderlas y recibir regalías por las ventas en el mercado secundario. Es un sistema respetuoso que reivindica al artista desde todo punto de vista.
