More Gaea Practice

RockWall_2.jpg

I'm still doing some experimenting in Gaea but moving a bit past the absolute basics and trying to get better control over making specific designs and shapes. It's incredibly easy to just create a very realistic, but generic mountain or mountain range in Gaea, but it's starts getting complicated as you're trying to really dial in looks and get more specific.

The erosion and weathering algorithms they have in here are absolutely amazing, but by default they just sort of "melt" everything, and creating, hard, rugged looking rocks is a bit more challenging. So this time I wanted to take a shot at making something very rocky without much erosion which in general tends to soften things a lot.

As I mentioned before, the real downside to Gaea is the speed. To render out the final maps at 8k, it takes HOURS to process. It's like rendering a full animation just to produce the maps. Anyway, after they're done I brought things into cinema for lighting, additional texturing and actually making an image.

As with the previous images I've made, there's not much of a concept, really just getting familiar with the tool, but it seems like a waste to not do at least one render. Threw those birds on in post to sell the scale and called her done. Hope you like! :)
