They tell the legend of a pious soul condemned to live in solitude and suffer thirst in the eternal heat of hell. It is an ambiguous spirit; it is good and at the same time vengeful. Many invoke its power to alleviate their sorrows and to ask favors while religiously lighting many candles, but in return they must fulfill all their promises, or the suffering soul will return and knock at your door, will extinguish all your candles and will carry you with it for all eternity.
Cuentan la leyenda de un alma piadosa condenada a vivir en soledad, a sufrir sed en el eterno calor infernal. Es un espíritu ambiguo, es bueno y al mismo tiempo vengativo. Muchos invocan su poder para aliviar sus penas y pedir favores mientras encienden religiosamente muchas velas pero a cambio deben cumplir todas sus promesas al pie de la letra, sino el alma penando retornará y tocará tu puerta, apagará todas tus velas y de un soplo fantasmal te llevará para siempre con ella.

This drawing came up while i was sharing creative moments with some friends, at that time the theme was the urban legends and myths of our region (Venezuela)... Many of these legends have travelled to different corners of the Latin American continent and have emerged from stories of Spaniards and Italians as in this case.
Este dibujo surgió mientras compartía momentos creativos con algunos amigos, en ese momento la temática era las leyendas urbanas y mitos de nuestra región (Venezuela)... Muchos de ellos recorren diferentes rincones de todo el continente latinoamericano y han surgido de historias de españoles e italianos como en este caso.
Initially it began as a drawing with traditional techniques, graphite pencil, and some colored notes with a little crayons. I wanted to keep that effect as dark and ghostly of the character.
Inicialmente comenzó siendo un dibujo con técnicas tradicionales, lápiz de grafito, y algunas notas de color con un poco de creyones. Quería conservar ese efecto como oscuro y fantasmal del personaje.
Then i edited it in Photoshop, to accentuate more the shadows and color, i cut the figure from the background, i wanted that effect as an overlay and that floats with all that shadow underneath. I added more details to the eyes, keeping the colors tenuous, with low opacity and flow, no strident colors because i wanted that ghostly and somewhat melancholic look. I love the predominance of those grays with those touches of soft colors and lights.
Luego lo edité en Photoshop, para acentuar más las sombras y el color, recorté la figura del fondo, quería ese efecto como de superpuesto y que flota con toda esa sombra debajo. Agregué más detalles a los ojos, conservando los colores tenues, con baja opacidad y flujo, nada de colores estridentes pues quería ese aspecto fantasmal y algo melancólico. La predominancia de esos grises con esos toques de colores suaves y de luces me encanta.
