The first Soviet horror film "Viy". Witch image

I decided to devote this week to Soviet actresses whom I admire even today. Among them there are many talented and beautiful women who appeared on screens in completely unpredictable images.

Back in 1967, the USSR released the film "Viy", which was based on the story of the immortal Nikolai Gogol. It can be considered that this is the first horror film that was shown in cinemas.

I decided to draw the main character of this film - "Pannochka", played by the actress Natalya Varley. The image of a witch who turns from a vile old woman into a beautiful young girl and cannot find peace even after death is a real gloomy aesthetics.

A mystical atmosphere, terrible and frightening evil spirits, an abandoned church, a dying witch in a coffin - all this creates a unique atmosphere that forgives the shortcomings of special effects.
The walls of the old church are crushing to this day. You know how this story will end, but still, fear crawls under your skin. The film "Viy" showed how terrible Slavic mythology can be, which can become a dozen of mystical films.

"Viy" is the main horror movie of the night before the holiday "Ivan Kupala", which must be watched in the dark.

If you have not watched this film before, then be sure to try) This film will not leave anyone indifferent.
By the way, if you missed my story and drawing about a strange children's fairy tale, then you can see it HERE!)
