The Iris flower reminded me a lot of my sister, Joy. It’s a symbol of royalty, trust, faith, wisdom and eloquence! She had asked me for a while to create an illustration for her birthday! I was pretty happy about it. So I started on it, unfortunately I fell terribly ill. I was really overcome by worries on how I would finish the painting before her birthday which is today. But as I started, I began to have the imposter syndrome haunt me because what I painted was not up the quality of what I usually do. But yesterday, I got a little better, so I could think clearly. I got painting again and I was finally happy with the results. It made me happy to finally be able to do something cool for my sis : ) and yeah, she loved it!
PROCESS
I started with a sketch of what I had in mind to create for her, but as you’ll see in the other stages, I ditched it
I went on to create my line art and fill in the flat colors
It was at this point that I felt something was wrong and it just didn’t look like her at all. With my head throbbing and my hands shaking, I felt pretty disappointed.
So I scrapped it and started again, this time around using a different pose. I was satisfied with it!
And lastly, the finishing touches!
