Here are a few monarchs and other critters for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

I found a fairly fresh monarch on my early morning commute in downtown Chicago.

I found this guy trying to warm up right outside a Potbelly's reastaurant after I got a breakfast sandwich.

When they are cold you can easily pick them up and they won't fly away.

Later as I got to work and walked down the endless hallway to our temporary office I heard a scuffling scratchy sound on the floor.

Turns out it was a two inch long sewer roach lol. How did it get up to the 9th floor yikes. Hopefully our permament office won't have roaches.

Later in suburbia I went for a forest walk and found a gigantic bald faced hornet nest. This thing was larger than a basketball and still had hornets in it. Each year they die off except for the queen who hybernates under bark in a tree. Then she emerges again and lays eggs for a new colony to build another large nest like this.

I also found another newly minted monarch.

This one may have just hatched as it seemed to be drying out its wings.

I read somewhere that monarchs that hatch in September are the ones who migrate south for the winter. This one has quite the journey ahead.

Happy #wednesdaywalk :-)
