Wednesday Walk by the Beach

Here is a walk by the beach of Lake Michigan for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

We finally made it up to the beach this year. Once it gets over 85 degrees the water will finally get warm enough to tolerate lol.

Fortunately this particular beach is rarely over crowded as its all the way up in Zion somewhat close to the border of Wisconsin.

The water up here is nice and clear and you can see all the way to the bottom of the lake until it drops off suddenly. This area can be a bit of trouble with rip currents but today the wind wasn't strong and the waves were minimal.

The real fun is collecting rocks along the shoreline.

There are also quite a few walking trails along side the shoreline where you can find random riff raff like this dead tribble.

These robber flies are fun to have around as they will snipe in mid-air annoying flies trying to pester you.

These red and black beetles were flying around everywhere, I think it might be a wood borer of some sort feasting on pollen.

Lily pads were blooming in the murky side canal next to the lake.

I'm not sure if this one will turn white like the rest of them or if it is a different color of lotus flower.

Look at this somewhat rare sight. A cactus in Illinois? Blooming? The dry sand dunes next to the beach make a perfect environment for these cacti. I doubt any of them survive the winter here as the lake effect makes everything freeze solid, unless they manage to survive somehow. Maybe they just grow new each year.

I heard quite a few birds in the trees but other than seagulls I was only able to get a shot of this juvenile blue bird.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
