Wednesday Walk: Sveti Vid

Hello everyone!

I'm still in the place I call my second home (on the island of Pag in Croatia) and since it's getting a bit boring, my wife and I decided to go for a walk, to the highest point, a hill called Sveti Vid, where you can have a nice view on all sides around the island.

Pag is one of Croatia's more popular tourist islands and has many (probably more) interesting things to see.
If you're more interested, my friend @miljo76 described it very well in his post Between the white stone, tasty cheese and crystalline sea.

You have to go for such a walk early in the morning and be back in time because it gets hellishly hot around 9 o'clock and you have to avoid it because there is no shade up there and halfway up the trail.
Some people go up there in the dark and then enjoy the view of the sunrise. Well, we were too late for anything like that, we got up at 6 am, ten minutes by car to the end of the village of Kolani, where I parked.

Yes, someone will just smile at that, this hill is 349 meters high, but since we're at altitude 0, that's 349 meters of ascent...

We took an easier hiking trail that takes about an hour.

Looking back along the trail, with the sea and the town of Novalja in the background.

This is a view of the neighboring hill, half-lit by the morning sun.

This hiking route is, as I mentioned, easier and up to the direct ascent is in the shade in the morning, so the walking is quite good.

A wall made of stones. Because it's so abundant, locals use it as a border between their plots.

Along the way we met sheep, mainly looking for shade and food, which is scarce among the rocks.

We came out of the valley onto a plateau where there are only rocks and wind and sun.
A view to the west, to the sea, and to Italy.

Now the climb. Sveti Vid is at the top, the sun is up, but it's not yet visible on this side. Half an hour to the top.

We're a little higher again and looking west.

A little more climbing and a view to the other side, to the east, overlooking the Gulf of Pag.

Just a little more and we'll be at the top!

Again, a view of the Gulf of Pag and Velebit in the background.

We're on top! This needs to be documented! :) 😁

As usual on mountain peaks, hikers can take a commemorative stamp as a souvenir and proof that they have been to the top.

View of the Pag Gate, where you enter the Gulf of Pag, with the town of Pag on the far right and Velebit in the background.

And here's a pic of me (my wife took it, she has a better phone) :) 😁 😎
On the far left is the beach of the Holy Ghost from where we came.

Now another hour of descent. We'll just take the same route back.

Thank you for your attention!
