But Marostika is a city known throughout the world for its traditional game of chess in the city square, where the chess pieces come to life. People dressed in ancient costumes will act as chess pieces. And, imagine, the horses are also alive! These games are held every two years. The last games took place in September this year. Unfortunately, I did not have information about this event and did not attend. I think it was an interesting sight!
Now the children are playing, running on the pink and white marble squares. Tourists take pictures on a huge chessboard to leave a memory.

Я ніколи не цікавилася грою в шахмати. Але ніколи і не думала, що можу потрапити в місто зі справжньою шахматною дошкою, що розташована на головній площі міста. Так, ви будете здивовані. Але Маростіка - це місто, відоме на весь світ своєю традиційною грою в шахмати на площі міста, де шахові фігури оживають. Люди, одягнуті в старовинні костюми виконають ролі шахових фігур. І, уявіть, коні також живі! Ці ігри проходять кожні два роки. Останні ігри відбулися у вересні цього року. Нажаль, я не мала інформації про цю подію і не потрапила. Думаю, що було цікаве видовище!

Marostika Square is not very large in size and is called Piazza Castello. This is understandable, because it is located on the square

The lower and upper castles and walls were built by the Scaligers, as evidenced by the coat of arms at the entrance to both castles.

The day today seemed wonderful, warm and sunny. And I resolutely, full of energy, headed up the Carmini road to the upper castle. The castle is built on Pausolino hill. It is square in shape with small towers and a tower in the middle. Walls resembling a Chinese wall descend from the mountain from the castle. The walls wrap the hill like huge hands.

The path goes up steeply. It is lined with stones that are very slippery and you have to be very careful not to slip and fall. I slowly climb up and stop near an olive grove. The olives have already ripened and turned black. They taste bitter and astringent.

The castle turned out to be closed for repairs and it was impossible to get inside. But I admire the panorama of the city from several observation decks. The roofs of the houses, covered with red tiles, create a peculiar picture, as if puzzles are pressed together. I see the bell towers rising above the city. The area with the lower lock is also clearly visible.
Замок виявився замкненим на ремонт і потрапити всередину не було змоги. Але я помилуватися з кількох оглядових майданчиків панорамою міста. Fresh mountain air and a light breeze envelop me from all sides. After spending an hour on top of the hill near the upper castle, I decided to go down slowly to the city. After all, the city, like a magical casket, opens new and new treasures.
One such treasure is the church of Madonna del Carmine. This church is built on the upper street that rises above the city and is located at the foot of the Pausolino hill. The Carmini path leading to the upper castle begins on the left side of the church. The church was built in the Baroque style in the 17th century. The church with a white marble facade stands out against the background of a green hill. There are 47 steps leading to the church.
Свіже гірське повітря і легенький вітерець огортає мене з усіх сторін. Побувши з годину на вершині пагорба біля верхнього замку, я вирішила спуститися повільно вниз до міста. Адже місто, як чарівна шкатулка відкриває нові і нові скарби.
Одним з таких скарбів є церква Мадонни дель Карміне. Ця церква побудована на верхній вулиці, що височить над містом і знаходиться біля підніжжя пагорба Паузоліно. З лівого боку віл церкви і починається стежка Карміні, що веде до верхнього замку. Церква побудована у барокковому стилі у XVII столітті. Церква з білим мармуровим фасадом виділяється на фоні зеленого пагорбу. До церкви ведуть сходи, що налічують 47 сходинок.
The parish church of St. Anthony the Abbot stands out with its brown tower-shaped belfry dome. The church was founded in the 14th century. The Franciscan monastery is located nearby. During the Scaliger period, it was the only religious building in the city.

The church of Santa Maria Assunta is close to the Porta Bassano gate. The first documentary references to this church date back to 915 AD. The modern church was restored and rebuilt in the 17th century in the Baroque style. The facade of the church impresses with its beauty as soon as you find yourself in front of it. There is also a lot to see inside the church. On both sides are magnificent red marble columns. The church houses paintings and sculptures by famous local artists.

Сучасна церква була реставрована та перебудована в XVII столітті в стилі бароко. Фасад церкви вражає своєю красою як тільки опиняєшся перед нею. Всередині церкви також є на що подивитися. Leaving the church of Santa Maria Assunta, I walked down Corso Mazzini to Porta Breganzina. There are many shops and cafes on this long street. Long arcades protect from rain or heat. In one of the cafes, I ordered a syringe and sat down at a table almost near the gates of Porta Breganzina.
Покидаючи церкву Санта Марія Ассунта, я пішла по вулиці Corso Mazzini до воріт Pоrta Breganzina. На цій довгій вулиці знаходяться безліч крамниць та кафе. Довгі аркади захищають від дощу або спеки. В одному із кафе я замовила собі шпріц і сіла за столик майже біля самих воріт Pоrta Breganzina.
It's time to say goodbye to this wonderful city. I go beyond the walls of the city and admire its walls illuminated by the setting sun.
