Inner migration of the Flamingos soon.

At last we found an entrance (open gate) to the protected lake area.

The gate was behind the palm trees and we left our car here from where I took the photo.

Wednesday Walk in the Western Cape Province.

This a large lake on the outskirts of the town and you can see the town surrounding the lower slopes of that mountain under cloud.
Behind us was the Atlantic ocean about 500 meters away.

This post is also suitable for the #wednesday challenge hosted by @tattoodjay

Right, we were in and look at that lovely sight. The footpath at the right was our route.

I saw this Blacksmith Lapwing (Vanellus armatus) doing his thing near some rocks in the water.

Oops! Almost stepped on a dragonfly on the foot path.

Some crazy and lovely cloud formations on the mountain range.

A coot was running towards an intruder in his territory.
123.jpg

Bang! The coot greeted the enemy.
124.jpg

And then the enemy made a dash for safety with the attacker following.

Here we had a large flock of Egrets landing behind a couple of Egyptian geese.

A mom Yellow-billed duck (Anas undulata) was cruising around with her babies.
073.jpg

The babies were maybe two or three weeks old with no hair (feathers) on their heads yet.

That green island at the left in the water is where the Flamingo's gather when they arrive.
I will hide in the reeds next to the island where the yellow cross mark is.
Of course my clothing and my hat will match the color of the reeds.

We always sat in the car on the last road between the town and the lake, watching the flamingos but they were too far away for me to get clear shots on the zoom. Once or twice we tried to gain entry to the lake area, but all things were locked up tight.
Then on this day we saw people (hikers) walking next to the lake and we decided to investigate.
Oh yes, there was a hidden gate and we found it.

In full summer this lake welcomes large flocks of birds and also raptors and my camera is looking forward to a party at the lake.

And That's All Friends!
