A Wednesday Walk for Fresh Fish and a Bit More in Greece

To have fresh, fried fish just caught from the see for lunch! I was dreaming about it long before my coming to Greece. This year I am spending my long holidays on the island of Rhodes.

To my surprise, only frozen fillet can be found in shops, which is very emberrasing for the village by the sea! Or was that my stupidity to look for fresh fish in a supermarket? Yes, it definitely was. Local people told me the way to the fishmarket by the sea - that must be the right place for my dream to come true!

To know the place for sure, I took a walk along the sea and found a small marina with boats which would definitely belong to locals. It was the time of sunset and it was getting dark very fast.

When I came there on Wednesday morning, all the colours were much brighter. I enjoyed my walk, but there was only one fisheman there. He looked very busy - he had just returned from the sea and had to manage a lot before leaving the boat.

I asked the fishemen to show the fish he got. They looked very nice. We agreed about the purchase but I had to wait for about an hour before he would be able to leave the boat.

I spent the waiting time in a small cafe with a cup of coffee.

When I returned to the boat, there was one more buyer there

but the fisheman still had enough pretty fish for me too.

When I paid and was ready to go, that very kind man gave me a pare of pretty sea shells!
It made me not only smile but also jump of happiness, and there is nothing strange that I forgot to take a picture of that moment. Then I asked the man to take the shells in his hands, just for my photo, and believe me - it was quite difficult for him to understand the reason of this action.
Well, finally he did what this strange foreigner (me!) wanted but you can see some perplexity on his face and in his figure on the photo below.

This photo was focused on boats, not shells, but they can be better seen in the top picture.

The cat has also got a gift from that friendly and generous fisheman and has just eaten a small fish.

And here is the result of my walk - wonderful fried fish lunch which I shared with my friends Natalia and Stavros.

The plate was placed in the oven not to cook but to save from a number of very interested cats while we were making salad :)
