Ruthin, a small town sitting quietly in North East Wales, surrounded by the hills of the Clwydian Range. It is only 30 minutes from my home and had to pop there on business, so weapon in hand I had an hour to spend in the town.
The name Ruthin is a derivation from our mother tongue, RHUDD, meaning red of the deepest shade and DIN, meaning fort. there has been a castle here for centuries.
I didn't bother with the modern 18th century abomination, now serving the public as a spa and retreat. It "proudly" claims that Charles of the house of saxe coburg of gotha, stayed here on the night before his investiture at Caernarvon.
He is not Welsh, he is not our prince. he is not fit to walk in the footsteps of Owain Glyndwr, the only true Prince of Wales.
It is steeped in History and folklore.
The town itself sits on top of a hill. the place was eerily quiet on this warm end of summer day, I guess some folk are still scared of the covey and are locked away not venturing out.
You won't need an oxygen mask, but I suggest you leave your stiletto heels at home in favour of sensible shoes on this occasion
Ruthin, is still the County town of Denbighshire, the grand entrance to the home of the minions, counting paper clips and shuffling bits of paper in order to justify their inflated remuneration.
Whilst in Utopia, the proletariat starve, lose their pride, their dignity and have to beg for food. All the while the pigs keep their snouts in the trough, occasionally spouting platitudes and pontificating about "levelling up"
THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY!
The 21st century where plod is now reactive not proactive, driving round in their fancy dan patrol cars. when did you last see a real bobby on the beat? Or is it just North Wales? the home of the speed camera.
The Memorial to the Glorious Dead, every town has one. Lions led by donkeys. Needlessly murdered for nothing more than the whims of an empirical family.
A memorial to Ruthin's recent favourite son
The town square where once a thriving market would set up, itinerants from all over bringing in their wares, their produce and animals. Now ? enjoy the roundabout. St Peter's church in the background.
)
Within the church grounds stand a group of almshouses, originally provided to the poor in the 16th C, reconstructed in the late 19th C and modernised in the 1970's.
Stained glass windows to the front and the rear of the church
There are a couple of branded stores on the outskirts of the town, the centre thankfully has still kept its small town feel with many small independent businesses
I don't knit I don't sew. So I visited and bought a handmade knitted toy. It was only a fiver, that's nothing.
We need to support and keep small businesses thriving; especially now as they recover from the draconian needless measures inflicted upon them by the puppet masters
Shun the corporates wherever possible. Avoid the tax dodging evil that is amazon. Your communities need you now more than ever.
and not far away, just down one of those steep roads
Well if you enjoy touristic stuff best wait until 2022.
