Today was certainly the smokiest its been all summer. Originally I was planning on going to go on a hike to the top of nearby Chamise Peak. With all the smoke, figured I could go check out "The Bluffs" and go down to the river at the Turtle Bay East open space area.
The start of Palisades Trail and on top of the bluffs. Back in the day, there was no trail, benches, and a fence about a yard from the edge of the bluff. So smoky, can't even see the mountains in the distance.
On the way down to the river trail and the open space area. Thankfully they added the way to get from top of the bluffs to the river trail.
So much cooler right next to the river. Natures radiator! It's nice when there's a breeze coming off the water. This is just below the bluffs.
They built a new bridge for the freeway about 10 years ago. A pair of bald eagles were made famous locally because they built an nest right next to the construction site on the other side of the river. On the side I was on, there's a memorial for Patriot, the male bald eagle. Patriot and Liberty had some eaglets before "Newbie" killed Patriot about 8 years ago. Liberty is now with another eagle named Guardian and they had many eaglets since, most recently in April.
An another pic of the river and there's ancient bmx bike jumps. Couldn't get good enough pictures of the jumps because of the sunlight.
After walking around the loop at Turtle Bay East, figured it was time to head back. Instead of going back to the top of the bluffs, I just went straight on the river trail so I pick up some lunch. It was already getting hot and the smoke gets to be too much after awhile.
