ALONG THE BAY ON A WINDY DAY

It's a sunny Wednesday, but the wind is blowing, so it's relatively cold for early autumn.

(Enlargeable)

I had to meet with some fishermen down in the port, to get some free cat food, but since the weather was problematic, the boats didn't sail out fishing. So I continued walking along the shore with the camera, to get at least some photographs to bring home.

This is the most popular & populated beach in Medulin, my hometown. But only in summer. As you can see, it's pretty quiet & depopulated now.

img_6672_malo.jpg

Only two kite surfers were doing a bit of surfing practice ...

(Enlargeable)

... near the windsurfing school.

img_6670_malo.jpg

Judging by the movements and postures of the two distant, ninja-like figures ...

(Enlargeable)

... the situation definitively looked like some learning was going on.

img_6676_malo.jpg

Not far from the beach ...

(Enlargeable)

... on the large green lawn behind the pretty big hotel, I found a small mushroom.

img_6685_malo.jpg

This is a young, not completely developed Coprinus comatus. It's tasty and edible, but I saw only one, so I let the mushroom be.

img_6689_malo.jpg

I continued along the narrow path, bordered by pine trees ...

img_6686_malo.jpg

... and closed summer stands.

(Enlargeable)

The sky was partially cloudy.

img_6693_malo.jpg

The changes in colors, light, and the overall atmosphere were slight but frequent ...

img_6697_malo.jpg

... which is a good thing for casual photography.

img_6699_malo.jpg

This diving school advert looked kind of surreal with the diver silhouette diving in the deep blue sky.

img_6698_malo.jpg

At one point some young dude appeared from behind the advert and continued down the stairs. It looked a bit funny, a bit like he just got out of the swimming suit.

img_6704_malo.jpg

A moment later ...

img_6696_malo.jpg

... I walked down to the beach.

img_6703_malo.jpg

This is a shallow, sheltered bay, so the sea looks pretty calm. But the wind was blowing. It wasn't especially strong, but it was cold and strong enough ...

img_6712_malo.jpg

... to bring some oak leaf ...

img_6715_malo.jpg

... along with the twigs ...

img_6709_malo.jpg

... from the park of the nearby hotel to the sea. While photographing these chunks fallen from the tree ...

img_6713_malo.jpg

... I noticed a small crab, well camouflaged among the stones.

img_6714_malo.jpg

This is Pachygrapsus marmoratus, a species that inhabits the intertidal zone and spends plenty of time out of the water.

img_8484_malo.jpg

The wind was most visible further from the beach.

img_8518_malo.jpg

On the grass ...

img_6763_malo.jpg

... and reeds ...

windy_reeds_xc3_gif_1.gif

... that were swaying quite beautifully.

img_6775_malo.jpg

Some plants look the best on days like this ...

2_windy_reeds_xc3_gif_2.gif

... when they dance in the wind.

img_8550_malo.jpg

A bit further along the path ...

(Enlargeable)

... I came across some exotic, decorative grass. The feathery tops of these tall plants looked like waves of a wild, fluffy sea.

img_8562_malo.jpg

I enjoyed this unexpected, free spectacle for ten minutes or so ...

(Enlargeable)

... before resuming my walk.

img_6795_malo.jpg

Soon I was passing by some stands that look like small wooden houses ...

img_6688_malo.jpg

... and I stopped to check if there's something interesting to photograph there.

(Enlargeable)

Didn't expect much, so I ended up being pleasantly surprised ...

(Enlargeable)

... by the elegance of shapes and shadows on those simple, seemingly uninteresting constructions.

img_6787_malo.jpg

The view from the little terrace looked even better.

img_6796_malo.jpg

The floating dock made of some plastic pieces looked pretty cool ...

img_6804_malo.jpg

... and in line with the colors of the sea.

img_6805_malo.jpg

Plenty of elegant blues.

img_6717_malo.jpg

I walked down the stairs that lead to the beach ...

img_6801_malo.jpg

... passed by the little wooden cabin ...

img_6807_malo.jpg

... and stopped to photograph a seagull ...

(Enlargeable)

... that was searching for something in the shallows.

img_6722_malo.jpg

A bit further ...

(Enlargeable)

... I saw some little trees, oleanders probably, in a cage. The scene was slightly surreal. The plants looked a bit like animals in the zoo.

(Enlargeable)

I still don't know what this cage or cage-like construction is about. It's kind of mysterious. And slightly cool as well. A bit like something from that Waterworld movie with Kevin Kostner. I'm kind of surprised by the general dislike of the movie. I mean, it's far from a masterpiece, but still looks better than most of the pretentious Superhero kitsch, regularly praised nowadays. Deadpool and a couple of honorable oddities excluded, superheroes are mostly pathetic and boring. Yeah, Ok, Batman movies are cool, I'm not talking about them. The movies with many superheroes piled inside them are the most amazing brand of spectacular, convoluted garbage - in my opinion, of course. To me, they look like a final explosion that will kill the last remains of originality, art, style, and intelligence in blockbuster cinema.

img_6736_malo.jpg

Not far from the mysterious cage ...

(Enlargeable)

... I encountered two birds. The seagull and the crow. The crow was picking some food in between pebbles, the seagull was just observing.

img_6732_malo.jpg

The small taxi boats were floating as usual ...

img_6700_malo.jpg

... when I walked up the stairs, to the path again. The place was pretty deserted and quiet ...

img_6701_malo.jpg

... but not completely. A few pedestrians passed me by while I was sniffing around searching for motifs and details.

(Enlargeable)

These are the branches of the Persian silk tree. I like how they look while dancing in the wind, so I took a couple of shots. I didn't take many photographs on the way back home ...

(Enlargeable)

... just these few shots near some closed summer restaurant. A tomato plant has grown out of season, in the open sack filled with soil and humus.

img_6695_malo.jpg

And that's it. The walk is over. Hope you enjoyed the windy atmosphere.

As always in these posts on HIVE, the photographs are my work - THE END.
