About Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian
Mister Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian was born in the Ottoman Empire 1869 and died 1955 in Lisbon (Portugal), he was a #business man, an #art #collector and #philanthropist of #Armenian origin.
He was trying to bring the Eastern and Western cultures together, Mister Gulbenkian was above all a “business #architect”.
Thanks to his vision at the time, and of course his contacts and powers of persuasion, Mr. Gulbenkian played a nevertheless very decisive role in the #international #negotiations that led to the exploitation of the extraordinarily rich oil fields in Al-Jazeera (#Iraq) in the first half of the 20th century. One does not have to approve of this, however, it is written in his curriculum vitae, if one may put it that way. In the course of his life, he accumulated a fascinating #collection, worth seeing and #unique, which was strongly influenced by his #travels and his personal taste.
What is somewhat curious, Mr. Gulbenkian took #British citizenship in 1902, however, he lived to the end in #Portugal (but never had #Portuguese citizenship) and finally died in #Lisbon in 1955. In Lisbon, he established an international #foundation in his will, which was to bear his name and #contribute to the welfare of all #mankind. Very tricky all, but in the end it is a beautiful collection from all #countries such as #France or #Italy, to name only some examples.
About the Buildings and the Garden
The entire building, which houses both the #Foundation's #headquarters and is home to the #Gulbenkian #Museum and also the #Art #Library, is set in a ~7.5 hectare #garden. At one end of this #garden is the #CAM #building, which is being expanded according to a design by #architect Kengo Kuma. Therefore, parts of the garden are not accessible and also surrounded by a construction fence at the moment.
Again, the modernist building complex, which includes the headquarters of the Foundation, the Gulbenkian Museum and the surrounding garden, was even awarded the Valmor Prize in the year '75 and in 2010 it was also officially included in the National Cultural Heritage of Portugal as the first #contemporary work.
I was fascinated by all the sculptures and amazing artworks.
this sculpture I found really beautiful. The face of the #woman looks peaceful to me.
Diana...looks like in the old #mythology right? A really beautiful #sculpture in my point of view.
I like to let the #pictures, #photos and #Artworks speak for its own. Thats why I don't comment every artwork. Mostly our inner knowledge or feelings knows already the meaning or we understand on another #creative level all of rhis art. Just feel it. Just watch it.
the books in the Vitrine are interesting. Would like to read and see all pages of them.
the old style of living was amazing. Imagine we all would still live like that?
surely you need a loooot space in your home for that. You would need a whole house or castle for that style.
some bling bling... Wait, later is coming more.
the style of the pages is amazing. Nowadays nobody is doing thatt anymore. How much passion they put into this style. Fantasticoooo.
now lets see more bling bling...
phew,so much impressions, so much to think about. I went home with my thoughts still on this masterpieces from old times.
on my way out of the garden and museum area I saw from the far at least a nice #streetart a #graffiti.
I went a bit closer hopefully to get a better view, but I was wrong. Anyway I wanted to share it with you too.
Hope you guys liked my #Wednesdaywalk today.
