I live barefooted and naked, very close to Earth and Nature, in an 18-acre, off-grid, clothing-optional, food-forest intentional community (GaiaYoga Gardens), way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, far East Big Island, Hawai'i. Over the last few years there has been a very marked exodus of many millions of people from the well-known mainstream social media platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the like, and for many good reasons. I myself was among those that left these conventional platforms when I realized and saw clearly just how pernicious that they truly were. They were definitely not what they were portrayed to be.
From data mining, monetizing people's content without the individuals that create it receiving any benefit, intense social manipulation and censorship, to strait up account banning, the reasons to leave these platforms are many, and each individual that has chosen to do so had his or her own particular ones that were the last straw. I was banned from Facebook and Twitter for sharing information that was not in line with the agenda, and honestly I'm very grateful that it happened, because that's what started me on my journey of exploring alternative platforms. And explore I did! I created accounts on dozens of alternative social media platforms.
My very first experience with a social blockchain was when I discovered Bastyon (then Pocketnet), and I loved it! I spent a good amount of time there growing my account, and I was able to get it to a reasonable level. When I found Hive, however, I was blown away (in a good way), and the more that I learned and the deeper I went, the more enthralled I became, and pretty soon Hive took the front seat in terms of importance and my daily focus.
As greater numbers of people wake up to the fact that the mainstream platforms most definitely do not have their best interest in mind, there will be a search for a better option. While there are a great many alternative social media platforms now, and even a fair number of social blockchains, Hive has notably more to offer people than anything else that presently exists. From owning our data and our assets, being rewarded for what we share and our activity, operating in a level-economic playing field, to decentralized and community development and governance, Hive stands out from the pack, and by quite a lot.
Any efforts to onboard new people to Hive should definitely have a solid focus on the huge numbers of people presently jumping ship from centralized social media. Just some good promotion, outreach, and education, and Hive's number of daily active participants would likely see a giant leap. That giant leap will happen, sooner or later, but with our individual and collaborative efforts, we can indeed make it much sooner. That would be a great benefit to everyone, both those of us already here, and those joining us on this badass Blockchain.
Yesterday, which was a gorgeous sunny, warm, and breezy Wednesday, followed my usual cadence of focusing on Hive from morning to late afternoon. I left the Flow House about 4:30PM again, walking around to take more photos for this post, before finally going to do a good round of land work. Ano's Mother, Braja, watched the kitten for me while I worked, for which I was very thankful.
For land work, I sharpened my machete and did a few hours of clearing overgrown vegetation in various locations on the property, though mostly around or near the Landing. I worked just about until sunset, by which time I was feeling pretty exhausted. When I finished, I took a shower, collected the kitten from Braja, got her more food, then I headed back to the Flow House, to dive into my evening round of Hive catch-up and tasks. When I finished that around 10PM, I did a good round on LeadsLeap and CTPX, before finally going to bed just after 12PM. I'm still refining how to most effectively make use of those two sites. I slept well most of the night, waking up around 7:30AM, doing a quick round of Hive tasks, then going back to sleep until just after 8:30AM.
I was quite distracted with Elohi and Iolanthe up at the Flow House wanting to watch videos on my computer, but very thankfully I've been able to focus sufficiently to write this post. It's now approaching my 2PM cutoff for publishing posts, so it's time to wrap this up now, get it published, and then get back to my Hive catch-up and tasks. I deeply appreciate you all!
