One game my children really enjoy is Minecraft. While dad and mom are on a project (with occasional help from the children) they enjoy creating and interacting with the Minecraft world.
As soon as one person begins playing, a crowd quickly forms around the PC with commentaries.
One of the birthday gifts was a Minecraft programming book. My son is going to learn how to program the game to customize it to his liking. He's very excited about this and his siblings are also. Time will tell what he will do with this information and skill.
