Aphthous ulcer is a severely painful condition of the oral cavity. A tiny lesion is enough to cause very troublesome pain. The pain can sometimes prevent the person to eat and drinking normally. There is hardly any person who hasn't suffered from an aphthous ulcer, at least once, at some point in his/her life. I have got it multiple times. Usually, once an ulcer is developed, it takes 7-10 days to heal.
Last evening an above 50 man came to me with a severe form aphthous ulcer disease. There were numerous aphthous ulcers in his oral cavity; inner aspects of lips, cheeks, on the tongue and even in his throat. What he was having, Usually seen in chronic debilitating end-stage patients. But, he was an otherwise healthy person.
He was having severe pain with a muffled voice. He was eating liquid type of food items with much difficulty. According to him, he uses to have it quite frequently. This time he already had used two oral gels, two vitamins and a painkiller but there weren't any benefits. I prescribed antibiotics and gave an injectable painkiller.
As I have mentioned above, I have had this disease before. So, I can understand his pain. But, I never had in such a severe form. That is what makes me more grateful to my Lord Allah. For my aphthous ulcers, I never needed to go to a doctor. It healed automatically within 7-10 days, Alhamdulillah.
