The most important use of water during summer is to drink as much as possible. However, during this time of the year, we also see shortage of water at many area and also the depletion of ground water level results in water scarcity. It may end up with dirty water supply.

I have grown up drinking water from hand pump or from wells. May be many consider it hygenic, but being sourced from the ground level these water always fits in for drinking. Village people generally rely on these form of water and never faced any health issue. It is quite amazing how they manage to adapt to simple life style. I remember getting to know about water purifier when I shifted to city. It was first time I get a taste of #saline water. The supply water was too salty to drink. We use it to filter it using cotton and cloth and then boil it for drinking. Later, we bring in home the water filter to purify the water to make it drinkable. It was only later part that we installed our first water purifier at home but it was not succesful as the saline hard water making it defective more than it actually works. It is so strange that even in big cities like New Delhi people were fighting for drinkable water. Later, the bottled distilled water becomes a life line at many home. The business flourishes and many started to supply chlorine based distilled water for drinking and cooking. Even now many a times we get a muddy water supply at home, which is pure unhygeine for common usage.

As I shifted back to my village, I have seen people making use of earthen clay pots for Storing water. This was in practice since ancient times and people still finding it more beneficial because of its natural benefits. They do not have the comfort of refrigeration so storing water in earthen pots allow them to have chilled experince. Earthen pots also known as matka have multiple benefits.

  • Made up of mud and soil, these Matka water contains vitamins and minerals, which maintain the glucose level of the body.

  • Soil is alkaline, whereas the human body is acidic. Consuming eathrn pot water keeps the pH balance of the body correct. This does not cause acidity and stomach problems.

  • The water in the esrthen pot is cool and gentle on the throat. Much better than refrigerator water.*

  • Water from the pot increases metabolism. Prevents heat stroke.

  • Drinking water from an earthen pot helps in maintaining hydration levels.

  • Using earthen pots for water storage is eco-friendly and sustainable.

These earthen Clay pots are porous, which allows air and moisture to pass through, making them excellent insulators and naturally cooling the water through evaporative cooling. The clay also acts as a filtration system, removing impurities and enhancing the taste. Finding it so beneficial, you might find them on the roads side during summer time containing water for public.

Drinking enough water each day is important for avoiding fatigue and dehydration, and maintaining a healthy body. It is important to drink healthy water. Apart from clay pots , one can add basil or mint leaves into the stored water to give a fragrant taste. Water is essential for our survival and we cannot take a chance with it. It is always advised to have a class of water on waking up in morning and also to drink as much as possible to stay hydrated. Water is lifeline and we cannot take chances with it.
