NEWBIE INITIATIVE TASK 2

Good day, I want to sincerely appreciate God Almighty for the privilege to participate in the ongoing newbies initiative second task. I also appreciate my partner @dfreitesp who took out time to explain everything that was taught at the last meeting which I couldn't attend to me. I was excited to see that the video of the teaching was uploaded along with the task. This makes it more easier and understandable. The facilitators @starstrings and @sweetnkem really buttressed more on what my partner shared and what I read from the posts that we were asked to read before the meeting. It's good to learn more about what makes hive to be different from other platforms, what one should do and not do on hive and the importance of using appropriate tags on hive. To the task questions;

What's the difference between a centralized and decentralized platform using a clear example?

A centralized platform is a platform where the power to control, manage and influence other people's opinion is vested in a person or group of persons. In other words, a centralized platform is owned, controlled and managed by one person or group of persons. The users of the platform cannot influence the decision of the owner(s). Also, the central body have power over the activities of users on these platforms. Examples of centralized platforms are Twitter, Facebook etc.

A decentralized platform on the other hand, Is a platform where there is no central owner(s) and the users are equal. It is a platform owned, controlled and managed by all the users. Users are at liberty to carry out their activities and also have full authority over their accounts. Example of a decentralized platform is Hive.

In your understanding, briefly explain what plagiarism is, vote begging and post - recycling

Plagiarism is an act of adopting someone else's work without referencing them. That it, copying another person's write up, images and other contents to your own work without making your reader know the real source in your work. This is a great offense on Hive. It is expected that any addition to ones post from external sources should be adequately referenced. Such a practice can make one lose votes on Hive.

Vote begging Is an act of soliciting for votes from people of influence on Hive either by direct messaging or hashtags. This is not allowed on Hive as it might destroys ones reputation by making you look like an attention seeker. A quality post will definitely attract votes, this is what is allowed on Hive. Hive seeks quality, originality and authenticity.

Post Recycling is when one repost a previous post. This happens mostly when you ran out of ideas on what to post and when the post doesn't get adequate votes at first. A similar experience would have happened to me on our first task if not for the advice I got from @vickoly. Mine was not because of vote but I had submitted my posted even before the task was given. I reach out to him and asked if I should resubmit after editing it and he advised me to just edit it since not all that were asked was included in my post. Post Recycling is not allowed on Hive.

Why is it important to use the right tags in your post?
Tags are very important to our posts. It enhances the visibility of ones post. Quality contents with right tags attracts the attention of curators. Different communities have their own unique tags and for ones post to be visible for votes and comments on these communities, it is important to use appropriate tags.
