NEWBIE INITIATIVE TASK 3: Hive keys and security

Hello friends! Here, is my third task for the ongoing newbie initiative. This week, we had a very important discussion on hive keys and security. (

I could remember when my account was created and all my keys were sent to me, I was just laughing that what sort of keys are these, I was thinking I have to know all the keys off hands and I will have to be using them always. I got scared when I was told to guard it jealously and make sure I did not disclose it to anyone, it was then I knew those keys are the fuel to everything I will be doing on hive.
I want to appreciate our facilitators @starstrings01 and @depressedfuckedup who took out time to explain extensively what the keys are meant for and how to safeguard them.

To the first question:
If your partner for the week from Newbies-hive mistakenly dropped their active key in a Discord channel, highlight the various steps you'll indulge in to keep such account assets safe from potential theft.

In this situation, the first thing is inform her and advice her to delete the key from the discord, then log in to her account immediately, withdraw her liquid asset to a trusted account and to change her password and generate new password. The following are the steps to change and update ones key.
Step 1: log in to your account and click on the three dots in a box beside the setting box

Step 2: from the options provided, select Keys and permission.

Step 3: select change password from the list of options, to complete this task you will be ask to input your owner key and if you have forgotten your owner key you can use master key to get your owner key.

Step 4: Once you input your owner key, you will click on generate new password.
Step 5: update the password. Updating the password automatically deactivates the old password. The account is now safe for use.

To the second question:
What advice would you give to your friend, in regard to safekeeping his/her keys?

Just as our facilitators has taught us, not all links on hive should be clicked on, some links are traps, nothing is free. The first advice I will give her is to becareful of juicy links that will ask for ones active key to get HBD for free. Also, we can safe our keys on Google drive, although it is not 100 percent save, to make it save on the drive, you can change one letter of the key but ensure you remember the letter you changed. Also, one can write it out in such a way that it is understandable to only you. It is not advisable to safe it In your mail because someone can still access it or else you change a key like the Google drive method.
The best way is to have both soft and hard copy of the keys.
You can also use keychain app to secure your keys. Keychain app helps to safeguard ones key and to access it you will need your password and fingerprint. This will make the key accessible to only you.

To the last question:
Assuming your partner does not understand the use of each of these keys, how do you explain this to him/her in the simplest way?

Once you have an hive account you are entitled to five different keys which are explain as follows;
The posting key: this is what you use to make a post, comment, upvote, reblogging and do other activities that are not related to your wallet on hive.
Active key: This is an important key, it is the key to your treasure on hive. Active key is used for any financial transaction on hive.
Memo key: This is used to send one on one messages to someone. That is, you send an encrypted message that only the receiver can have access to it.
Private key/owner key: This is used to retrieve your account if hacked. It help you reset your account.
Master key: This is use to generate other keys that one cannot remember.
Thanks for reading my post.
