Does Rehabilitation Work For Criminals?

There is an adage that goes thus “once beaten, twice shy”. When you give birth to a child, the child is Tabula Rasa which means he or she doesn’t know anything but as the child grows uphe or she tends to learn various things from the society and if it is unfortunate that the child is only picking the wrong lessons without being corrected or put to check by his parents or the people around him, the child will be very much affected and can turn into a beast in the future.
For those who are criminals today, I’m sure they never knew what they’d be when they were still little but if their parents are quick to notice things, they’re likely to know that the child is growing wings so they’d cut it.

From what I heard and learned about the olden days, I learned criminals are usually being punished or killed if their punishment warrants death but it’s quite different now even though it has just little changes. Now, criminals are being taken to some rehabilitation centres and the aim is to give them or put them in the righg frame of mind so they can know that they didn’t do the right thing. The purpose of this is to make sure that they change and that’s why there are handworks to learn in correctional centres, pastors or Imams to pray for them and so many things they can learn but do they really work?

Can criminals be rehabilitated?

I haven’t met everyone in the world but with my level of understanding, I don’t think rehabilitation works for criminals. If something is in you, no matter how much or how hard you try to hide it, you’d still show it maybe unknowingly. Imagine an armed robber getting caught and punished then taken to a rehabilitation centre so he can forget about it and teach him how to act righg in the society, do you think that will work? Don’t you think such a person will still feel the urge to maybe rob people and still kill them?

If someone is into fraud and he’s taken to a rehabilitation center maybe to train him on how to become a better person and offer him some jobs that can help me live a better life. Do you think it will work? Especially for someone who has been enjoying fraud money and you’re suddenly introducing him to some jobs that may feel stressful for him to do?
I fee the only way rehabilitation can work is when the person loses his or her memory and it is even possible for them to regain it.

What do I feel is the best way to make them stop those acts?

Honestly, I don’t know. This is a very difficult question. The fact that someone is a fraudster doesn’t mean they should be killed or kept in the prison for so long. At the end of it all, they need to be free.
I think the best thing to do is place them on check for some years so that they will at least forget if not totally but at least live off that behavior. I feel that’s the best thing.

This is risky though because it is possible for them to return back to that behavior. Above all, it’s always better to stay away from past criminals. That behavior is still in them and it will forever be.
