Creative Sunday - Watermelon earrings

Hello, today I would like to introduce you to a project I have already finished - earrings as pieces of watermelon. I like bright colors, so it's not surprising why I decided to make these earrings.

I started them 2 months ago and although they don't take long to make they have been sitting tucked away awaiting completion. It's (was) summer, what's something that reminds you of summer? The sea - that's clear, but also lots of fruit and vegetables that actually ripen then. Yes, with the current globalization we have these fruits and vegetables all year round, but as they say in an advertisement in Bulgaria it is now "Watermelon Season" (the advertisement is for an alcoholic drink similar to the Greek Ouzo, but it is ours - Mastica).

Here's the ad itself, or at least one version of it they have a few

I started with a magic circle. Like after it the second line was with TDC

I then did 2 extra rows with SC and changed the color to light green by doing 2 rows with that as well.

I changed the color to dark green and stamped a line with it.

In order to be able to get the shape of a cut piece of watermelon I folded the resulting tri-color circle in half. With the remaining green thread I clamped the two ends like a slip stich.

I did the same with the second round.

This is what they look like finished.

As I said at the beginning, I wondered for a long time how to make the earring grip with the hook. I tried a few options, but the best looking one was the one with the rope splicing and sewing it to the hook.

I'm happy with the end result. I would definitely repeat making these earrings!
