Hello everyone, welcome to week3 of the @newbiesintiative programme. This tasks has been helpful in terms of understanding how the Blockchain works which ordinarily, I may not have understood.
I must say that this week's task has really enlightened me on the importance of my keys and account recovery and trustee.
Below is the little knowledge I gained so far.

In your opinion, what are the best ways of keeping your keys safe?

Hive keys are highly classified so to avoid compromise of any sort, I have special places where they are kept safe. However, no man is an island as we all need someone to lean on even in keeping the keys safe and I have few ways in which they are kept safe.

  • Saved in my email. Immediately after getting an account, I copied all my keys for safe keeping in my email.

  • Printed on a paper. At first I didn't feel it was wise saving my keys in a printed document but I leant from someone's experience of losing their keys saved in the email that was crashed.

  • A trusted sibling. I have a sibling I trust so much with my keys and I know they won't be compromised for any reason.

  • My social media inbox. One may think that it isn't safe saving in an inbox but it's codedly saved only to my understanding.

How do you check your recovery account and what process is needed to recover an account?

I was made to understand that only a compromised or lost account can be recovered using the master/owners keys.
Here are the steps in checking recovery account and the process.

Firstly, I use PEAKD fronted.

  • Log into my account and click on the 3 dots as shown by the arrow.

  • And it will take me to "keys & permission" and then click to reveal the recovery account spot.

  • Then click on the "recovery account" to reveal my choice which is OCDB

  • And if I wish to change my recovery account, I'll just click to reveal options as shown on the screenshot below

Whom did you choose as your account trustee, and why?

At first I saw no need to have a trustee but for the sake of unknown tomorrow, I choose OCDB as my account trustee and I understand that it can be changed at will.

List the various types of keys and state their use cases.

There are five (5) keys on the blockchain.

  • Master key/password: just as the name implies, it's the master of them all used for recovery account and setting other keys.

  • Posting key: can be used for posting articles, commenting and replying on posts, voting, following and muting.

  • Memo key: is that key you can use to send and view encrypted messages.

  • Owner key: is for account recovery, resetting of posting, active and memo keys.

  • Active key: this is used in the wallet for transactions which includes power up and down, hbd and give conversation, token transfer and witness votes.

This task wouldn't be achieved without the help of my teammates and my tireless team leader @hopestylist.
I am glad I have you all and I wish us all the best.
