Tell us about that sport you love watching or playing. Tell us a little bit about it and how it is played. And tell us why you enjoy it so much.
At first, football used to be my favorite sport right from my high school days especially during inter house sports until a player mistakenly hit me so hard with the ball on my tommy while playing. It was such a painful experience, I felt the pain for a very long time and when I recovered, I lost the appetite to continue and therefore developed interest in Relay race, I liked relay and still love it now. I played the sports countless times then and still watches it in Tv this days.
A LITTLE ABOUT HOW IT'S BEING PLAYED
Relay race usually consist of four competitors (four runners) who runs a specified or same distance, one changing the other at some designated points with a fixed zone or simply call it an exchange zone. It's usually a four by four game, that means each team players are four in number making it a total of sixteen players. There are 4 X 100meters relay race, 4 X 400m etc.
The four runners (legs) involved in the sports are : the first leg, second leg, third leg and the fourth leg known as the ANCHOR LEG
Each runner leg is usually expected to pass on a baton to the other next runner while maintaining the exchange marked zone. This provide fun and encourage the spirit of competition. Each runner covers same distance and the team that finishes first becomes the winner!
Baton is an important aspect of relay race and it has a rule which stipulate that it should be carried in the hand throughout the race. Another important rule about the use of baton during the race is that the baton can only be passed to another team player within the exchange zone otherwise, the runner will be disqualified.
WHY I ENJOY THE SPORT SO MUCH
Relay race is the only team event in Athletics. It offers opportunity for a healthy team competition. Athletes compete as a team rather than individual, however the effort of one runner cannot determine the win but with collective effort, result will be achieved! I love the sport so much because it encourages team work.
